    - Share folder on corporate network, can't find on other end Hello, So for various reasons, the best way I can share this one file with several co-workers is to a share a file off my hard drive. We are all on the same network and anytime they'd need it my computer would be on. I was able to use Windows built in help to "Share the folder" with my co-workers but once on their machines I could not figure out how to go find the shared folder. I have a feeling I need an IP Address, and if so, you'll need to tell me how to find it. So how can I get this shared folder so that everyone can see it and access it?     - Logon Diverted Hi, Has anyone seen the XP sign-on page start displaying that of previous Windows? Instead of having two icons (2-user accounts) on the first screen after booting, I now have a Windows dialog window where I have to type (rather than clicking my name) my account name; I then click OK.     - win xp sp3 Just wondering, is sp3 eating up all my ram or not. Since windows updated it to my pc, The pc is painfully slow, (like 6 minutes to reach my desktop, or is somthing else going on.     - SP3 - Access is denied Hi, I receive this "Access is denied"-error when trying to install the Service Pack 3 for Windows XP. When trackign down the error in the svcpack.log (see udnerneath), it has apparently something to do with missing rights on my registry, which is quit bizar because I am Administrator on my machine. I gave my user explicit full control on my registry, but I still have this error. Does anybody has any idea how to fix this problem?     - sp3 and ftp command line I just installed XP sp3 on a computer within our domain. Now, ftp from a command line does not work. It connects, you can login, you can change directories, you can rename and even delete files. But, if you try ls, dir, get, or send, those commands timeout. After those commands timeout, the connection remains open and you can still do the previous commands listed, but not get,send,ls,dir. Just as a test, I opened the ftp site from within IE and it works fine in there, I can copy and paste, rename, delete files. Windows Firewall and ICS are both disabled. Last Friday, I installed sp3 on my own workstation, and I do not have any of these same problems. So, to further test it, I installed sp3 on another computer. This third computer has the same problems with ftp that the first one has. And, something else that might be related... With a domain admin account, I can pull up Computer Management for my computer remotely, but not the 2 that have the ftp problems. And, this problem is usually fixed by disabling Windows Firewall or configuring Windows Firewall to allow those type connections. The only difference between these 3 computers is that on mine, I used our internal WSUS server to apply the service pack. The other 2 computers, I downloaded the sp3 distribution, WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe, from Microsoft and installed that.     - Difference Start/Turn Off/Standby VS Power Options Standby If wrong groups please advise. Is there any difference between going to sleep via method A and B (below): Method A: Start/Turn Off Computer/Standby Method B: Control Panel/Power Options/Standby (Ex: Standby after 15 minutes) The reason I ask is that I am having trouble w/ USB Flash drives. Using method A and waiting a while before waking up causes the drive to be unavailable until unplug and replug it in. It is visible in Explorer but you can't read/write to it.     - FAT32 extended partition not recognized as an XP Drive - but can I have a strange situation.. PC Info: AMD X2 4800+, 300gb Seagate SATA drive, 4 gb mem (2 sets dual channel), XP Media Edition. HD partitioned 4 drives (C & D - Fat32, E & F - NTFS) My PC froze last week and I had to press (Ugh!) the reset button. After it rebooted, it went into CHKDSK (which I expected), but it scanned my D Drive first, then went to C, and froze at 30%. After a while I finally reset it again and this time it scanned C: first and finished and then stated that it couldn't check D:, because D: was not an XP drive. My system starts (very, very slowly) and runs (very very slowly), and my D: drive is listed, but not accessible (not a windows drive). Now the weird (and Lucky) part.... I booted with a Win98se floppy and was able to get (using a great free long filename utility) my data off the D: drive, which DOS was able to display. I copied it to the C: drive for recovery off my network. Now the Questions... What can I do to get the D: drive to show back up in Windows and why can I see the data in DOS but not in windows?     - XP automatically starts up immediately after Hibernation I just started using a new HP DC7800. with WIN XP Pro SP2. When the computer goes into hibernation within a minute or so it automatically starts up again. It has 4Gb RAM. There are no AUTO starts in the BIOS. there are no scheduled tasks.     - XP SP3 - SVCHOST.EXE USES 100% CPU - AUTOMATIC UPDATE SERVICE BROK I reloaded XP PRO on my Dell 810 twice with the same result. After install of SP3, I tried installing other updates but windows update fails and says another automatic update is pending and has to complete first. At this point svchost.exe eats 100% cpu and can only be fixed by stopping the automatic update service. I tried rebooting, waiting overnight but the same result.     - Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close The OS is XP Pro. There are two user accounts: me and she. The problem: when she tries to access a picture that was just sent to "my pictures" or one on her desk top the following message pops up. "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close" and the system hangs. Process explorer shows that "my pictures is not responding.     - Service Pack 3 After installing SP3 to one of my XP Pro Notebook I am no longer able to use Remote Desktop to logon to my win2003 server, error msg is: "Remote Desktop Web Connection Active X Control could not be installed. A connection cannot be made without a working installed version of the control. Please contact the server administrator".     - Parser message?? After installing WinXP on my new AMD Athlon dual core, the control panel function Add/Remove software doesn't work. It produces a small window named Parser Message that says 'Value creation failed " at line 451'. No further explanation given, just OK, after which the message disappeares.     - Help w/ hooking up 2 computers to a modem I've hooked the modem to an Ethernet switch and the 2 comps (both running WinXP SP2) with CAT5 ethernet cables. First computer is connected fine (your proof is this post) but the 2nd computer ain't obtaining an IP address. The lights on the switch confirm the port is in operation.     - no updates after repair install This system, WinXP home SP2, failed to boot, didn't even get up to windows loading, unable to get to safe mode IPL. After a repair install which went fine the system will not install any of the 93 outstanding updates. I use custom & choose "Review and install other updates If you do not install Windows XP Service Pack 3 (KB936929), other updates might still apply to your computer. " There is no error code given. they show 0 size and a disclaimer that the update is downloaded & if I select it will finish installing, which it does not do when selected. I have turned off virus scanning and used the Windows update trouble shooting to no avail. The system appears to be operating normally other than this problem.     - Windows Time Problem Recently my Windows Date and Time has been acting up. I set the date and time and within four or five hours the time is wrong. Example: "At 1pm I set the time as 1:00 pm. By 5pm the Windows time displays 3:35, almost an hour and a half late. If I don't check it for a day or two, it actually shows the date and time as some time on the previous day. Is this a CMOS battery problem or something else. If it were a Cmos battery problem, wouldn't I be having boot problems (ie: error and boot to BIOS?). Thanks for the help. I am a little panicked about the feedback I get from the Windows Task Manager about my program. More specifically, after I minimize the console application that is doing the computation, the Task Manager shows a very small (but growing) amount of memory (7Mb or so) being used by my program, but I know that my program, after some initializations, should use at least 300Mb (and maximum 500Mb, when the dynamically allocated memory is at the maximum). This makes me worry (hopefully irrationally) that Windows has done something --deallocated? -- with part of the memory that my program uses. A good sign is that the "commit charge" did not decrease, so I still hope that I am just witnessing a weird way of showing memory usage in the Task Manager and not anything more sinister. Can anyone with knowledge of how the Task Manager shows memory usage make me get rid of my fears? Alex P.S. I am using Windows XP.     - Persist user profile when removing computer from a domain I am in the process of downgrading my home office and no longer need my computers to be part of a domain. I'd like to remove them from the domain but do not want to lose my user profile in the process. If I remember correctly, when the computer is added to a domain, a new profile is created so I am assuming the same thing will happen when I remove it. I read a suggestion that I should manually create a local user and copy the domain profile using Control Panel - System - Advanced - User Profiles - Copy To button (after rebooting and logging in as Administrator) but the button is always grayed out (disabled). Even with this, I'm not confident that this will persist the entire profile. I'd like to be able to simply remove the computer from the domain and have use of it as if nothing changed - i.e. same wallpaper, desktop icons, favorites, my docs, e-mail settings, etc. Any suggestions? Anyone know a way to reinstall Windows' HTTP API, need it up and running so I
can get the HTTPFilter service and others that depend on it functioning.

Starting the API from command prompt:
