Easy Transfer Cable Error

I'm trying to move personal settings and folders from my old XP desktop to my
Vista laptop using the ETC. I installed the CD-Rom that came with the cable
on my desktop and linked up the 2 devices but after selecting the data I wish
to move and it starts to scan, I immediately get an "Windows Easy Transfer
has encountered an error and must close" message. I've tried a couple times,
each time attempting to move fewer files in case the load was too much but
the same thing happens each time.
