No and yes. It also includes a new WPA and WGA. If you're foolhardy
enough to install SP3, you'll have to uninstall IE7 first.

You're current message headers read:

X-Newsreader: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2900.3138
X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2900.3198

After SP3 they will read:

X-Newsreader: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2900.5512
X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2900.5512

So, you will have the latest version of OE, but I don't believe there were
any changes. That said, while there will never be any improvements made to
OE, security issues will be addressed as lone as XP is supported at the very
least, but you will need SP3 to get any further OE updates.

Fred,

SP3 does not include Internet Explorer 7. if by "Express 6" you mean
"Outlook Express 6", truthfully if you have Windows XP installed - you have
Outlook Express 6. It might get upgraded/patched with IE7 installs - but it
is still Outlook Express 6.

Alias,

Please explain, "you'll have to uninstall IE7 first"... I really do not
understand that part.

Then I guess if at any time I have to format the HD I would need to use my
current OEM SP2 disk with IE7/Outlook Express 6. Then install the SP3 from
the burned DVD.

Shenan:

If you have IE7 installed, you can currently uninstall it and revert back to
IE6. However, when you install SP3, it takes away the ability to uninstall
it and rollback to IE6.

So, MS says, if you want to have the ability to uninstall and revert back to
IE6, you need to uninstall IE7 *before* installing SP3. Then, once SP3 is
installed, you can reinstall IE7 and you will once again have the ability to
uninstall IE7.

No, the actual issue is that IF I.E. 7 is installed at the time you
install SP3, you cannot UNinstall I.E.7. You would need to UNinstall SP3
first, and then you could uninstall I.E. 7. If you aren't planning to
ever uninstall I.E.7, no biggie.

SP3 will update whichever version of 6 or 7 of Internet Explorer that
you currently have installed in the instance of Windows XP that is being
updated. There is no need to uninstall Internet Explorer, any version.

Read the overview notes for SP-3. It tells you exactly what it will do
regarding Internet Explorer.

That's just what I did. Loaded my SP2 OEM and applied the SP3 to it
post install. Along with new WU patches. I tried making a CD and
slipstream SP3 into it with my OEM Dell CD, but it did not work.
My suggestion is however, if you want to waste 20 cents on a CD and some
time, I would find a resource for slipstream (and there are a good few
different ones), and apply SP3 to your CD and burn a new one. Then wne
you have to reload, you can try loading it and proofing it. If it
fails, hell, you backed everything up, and you wasted an hour trying to
reload. But no harm.
If it works, you now know you got a better OEM CD to use.

IE7 does not come with XP. It is optional for XP. XP ships with IE6. Your
OEM cd will most likely not have IE7 on it.

I really should read these. ;-)

"Internet Explorer
If you have installed Windows Internet Explorer® 7 or a beta version of
Internet Explorer 8, and then install Windows XP SP3, you cannot uninstall
Internet Explorer.

To avoid this, ensure Internet Explorer 7 or a beta version of Internet
Explorer 8 is not installed before installing Windows XP SP3.

If you have already encountered this issue, uninstall Windows XP SP3,
uninstall Internet Explorer, and then reinstall Windows XP SP3."

But you can get an ISO version online. Google sp3 iso. Once I downloaded
it I used Nero to burn an ISO CD of it.
Now when I load the CD it automatically comes up with the Install SP3
screen. You have to select ISO in your 3rd party burner program. I first
time I just burned the ISO file... didn't work. The 2nd time I brought up
Nero Burning ROM and selected to burn an ISO CD. That time it worked the
way I wanted.
