SQL Dumper library failed initialization
This is the message I get everytime I restart my computer at the log in page.
"SQL Dumper library failed initialization. Your installation is either
corrupt or has been tampered with. Please uninstall then re-run setup to
correct this problem."
I think I did this accidentally when I was in add/remove programs. All I
know is I removed something (I was in a hurry and tired) accidentally and now
when I restart my computer, I get the above message. I don't know what the
program is that this message is referring to in order to remove it and add it
back.
I would appreciate it if you could direct me in the right direction.
Thank you in advance. Sheila Wilkes

Memory/CPU usage of explorer.exe
I have an external hard drive connected to my desktop computer (Compaq
Presario running Windows XP Home edition). Lately, when I try to open the
drive in Windows explorer, my computer has been freezing up. I am unable to
open files stored on the external drive, or use other programs until I close
the drive with Task Manager. T.M. says the drive is not responding, CPU
usage shoots up to 100% and stays there, and memory usage for explorer.exe
often reaches 40,000-45,000KB. I have run two separate virus/malware removal
programs trying to find something that might be hijacking the CPU/memory
usage, but both have come up clean. The drive's manufacturer has no
solutions other than "something's in there". Does anyone know what could be
causing this issue and how I can resolve it? Tag: TO DOWNLOAD 64-BIT XP PROFFESSIONAL OR SP3 OR SP4 Tag: 1917475
Windows Search Setup
I was cleaning out a few unused processes on my computer and I think I may
have stopped something from running which makes the windows search feature
work. I tried to re-install it but as a do i get an error saying:
"Setup has failed. Make sue terminal Services are enabled before re-running
setup"
now everything I can find says that terminal Services is for remote desktop
access, so why would this need to be enabled to install a search program and
where would you find it to enable/disable it anyway?
Please help. Tag: TO DOWNLOAD 64-BIT XP PROFFESSIONAL OR SP3 OR SP4 Tag: 1917469

Missing boot file:
I was reading about the missing ntoskrnl.exe file and I have the same
problem with my desktop computer.
This is the problem:
No safe mode is accessable or previous well last boot available. All say the
same about missing ntosknl.exe
I tried the R console and could not pass the "enter the administration
password" since the xp pro OS was installed by the previous owner I don't
have a clue of it. I pulled the HD and plugged it in as -slave in my other
comp.; I can browse it and see all files, but I have little or no knowlegde
of how to replace or repare the missing file in question. Nor do I know if
it's possible to do through this method.
I wish I could retain those programs and files in that HD.

Linksys tech support live chat transcript - enjoy!!!!
I had a PC come across my desk that had Linksys drivers for a WUSB54G
installed - but the install somehow failed. If you tried to uninstall the
Linksys app pops up and fails to uninstall saying that some file (it doesn;t
say which) is missing and the uninstall aborts. If you try and re-install,
it says you can't reinstall until you untinstall. This would not be a
problem except that the Linksys software is interfering with another adapter
also that I tried to install to get away from Linksys hell.
I even deleted all WUSB* from the Windows directories and all WUSB* registry
entries that I could. The uninstall and reinstall both still fail.
Frustrated as hell (isn't that how we all are when we contact technical
support?) I went online to get some help from Linksys, and this is what I
got.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sunmay Jagtap (40437): Hi, my name is Sunmay Jagtap (40437). How may I help
you?
Jim: I have a WUSB54G v1 that I installed - something went wrong with the
install and I tried to uninstall - it then said a file was missing and
aborted the uninstall - when I try and reinstall it says I have to uninstall
first - what the hell?
Sunmay Jagtap (40437): I can understand your concern's. May I please know
the model number and version number with the serial number ( S/N no ) of all
the linksys product you are using .
Jim: I don't have it - I left work already - its at work - do you mean to
tell me that you don;t have a simple uninstall for your products?
Sunmay Jagtap (40437): Well, if you uninstall it from the all program or
add or remove program , it should get uninstalled .
Jim: ARE YOU READING THI+
Jim: THIS
Jim: PAY ATTENTION
Jim: If I try and unsinstall it says there is a missing file
Jim: If I try and re-install to replace whatever file is missing it says I
have to uninstall first
Sunmay Jagtap (40437): That's the only option to have it uninstalled . If
you are not able to do that , you can get back to us from the work place ,
so that we can try to troubleshoot that adapter .
Jim: But I CANT FKING UNINSTALL because the file is missing
Jim: I WILL NEVER EVER BUY ANOTHE LINKSYS PRODUCT
Sunmay Jagtap (40437): Do you know the file name you were missing ?
Jim: NO - your beautiful software sdoesn;t tell me what file is missing
Sunmay Jagtap (40437): It seem's you are very frustrated , I do understand.
Please let me know if you are not having that adapter with you as of now,
how I could help.
Sunmay Jagtap (40437): I am there to resolve your issue , however there
might be many reasons , behind it as it is not getting uninstalled .
Jim: You must have a simple uninstall app that cleans a system of all
Linksys WUSB files....Norton has stuff like that for their products. I
really dont get why you would put out an uninstall that will not uninstall
if a file is missing - WHY DOES THAT MATER? Youre uninstalling it
Sunmay Jagtap (40437): It will be very difficulty for me to assume the error
and resolve it or give you a proper resolution on it .
Jim: Why?
Sunmay Jagtap (40437): If the operating system is not giving you any
resources to uninstall it like a .sys file is corrupted or missing , you
can face this issue .
Jim: Its not the OS!!!! YOUR SOFTWARE UNINSTALL APPLICATION FAILS saying a
file is missing and it does not tell me what file is missing\
Sunmay Jagtap (40437): If you fill that the Uninstall wizard on the adapter
CD is not working , you can try it in some other computer . I am sure you
should get to a proper conclusion .
Jim: Then, as if that wasn't stupid enough, your software will not
re-install without uninstalling - which your software won;t do because some
phantom file is missing that it will not tell me what file that is....
Jim: They'll love reading this in the newsgroups.....
Sunmay Jagtap (40437): It also happen's that the software even after
uninstalling , remain's in your registry , so you might need to clean up
from that registry .
Jim: So your software doesn't clean up its own mess?
Jim: If your software puts in a registry entry, when it is removed (WHICH I
CANNOT DO) it should remove ALL registry entries
Sunmay Jagtap (40437): Well, registry belong's to your operating system not
any device .
Jim: YOUR SOFTWARE WROTE TO IT IT CAN DAMN WELL CLEAN UP AFTER ITSELF
Jim: Unless your coders arent that bright
Sunmay Jagtap (40437): Is the adapter more than 3 years old or less than
that ?
Jim: Less
Sunmay Jagtap (40437): You can try to download the latest driver's for your
adapter and in that you will get the setup wizard as well, you can try to
use the new one .
Jim: You have to be the worst rep ever!!!! I have told you time and time
again that the software install fails because it says it is missing a file
and you can't overwrite it with another install because it makes you try to
uninstall first - WHICH I CANT FUCKING DO!
Sunmay Jagtap (40437): I appreciate you high technical skill you are
possessing , and getting to a conclusion that it is the software issue.
Being I a technical representative , I am afraid I will not be able to
assume thing's and give you a solution as they will be improper and wrong
on my part .
Jim: Really? Well, I am not as technically proficient as you. I only
taight my first programming class 25 years ago. I only own a small computer
company and I only write programs for attorneys and banking institutions.
Sp forgive me if I fail to see how you can screw up an installation so
completely that it will neither install OR uninstall.
Jim: I'm off to post this in the newsgroups - maybe I can save other
unsuspecting people from Linksys hell.....
Sunmay Jagtap (40437): That's great! to know you are doing very well on your
part . However , you do not have any product detail's and the device with
you , so it will not be possible for me to have it troubleshooted . Please
let me know if you have any option's or what resolution should you like from
my end , that can help you to resolve this issue ?
Jim: It is a WUSB54G version 1. I fail to see why a serial number is needed
when you know the model and version of the product. I also fail to see how
programmers could be so stupid as to code an app that will not uninstall
because it is missing a file that will be deleted anyway during the
uninatall AND to also fail to allow the reinstallation of the application -
forcing an unistall which is not possible due to a missing file - which they
are also too dimwitted to give you any clue as to the name of the missing
file so that it could be replaced. You'd never make it a week at my company.
Sunmay Jagtap (40437): I will suggest you to try to install and install the
adapter in some other computer . If you face the same issue even with some
other computer , you can have the adapter replaced as per the warranty
status from our end , if your adapter is in warranty .
Jim: Why would I screw up a second PC with your software when you can't tell
me how to get it off the first one? You must be out of your mind.
Sunmay Jagtap (40437): On what basic should I assume that it is the software
and not the computer or the registry or the OS?
Jim: When your software will not uninstall because it is missing a file and
it does not say what that ffile is - that is a problem with your software.
Jim: When your software will not overwrite the old install and forces an
uninstall - that is a problem with your software coded by your coders.
Sunmay Jagtap (40437): Well, what un installation Wizard does it use while
uninstalling it ?
Jim: Yours.
Sunmay Jagtap (40437): Are you using windows xp on that adapter computer or
any other operating system ?
Jim: XP Home
Sunmay Jagtap (40437): Have you tried to uninstall the adapter from the
device manager ?
Jim: The device was unplugged. It did not show in the device manager.
Sunmay Jagtap (40437): So have you tried uninstalling the software when the
device is plugged in ?
Jim: No. Is that where it keeps this phantom missing file?
Jim: And why would it delete a file from teh device to unistall from my pc?
Sunmay Jagtap (40437): Well, that might be the case . If the device is not
there in the computer , how can the software get un installed if that
software is not
in use , as it will not respond properly .
Jim: Because the damned files are still on the hard drive. Without the
device pugged in, they should have no reason to be in use and could easily
be deleted - IF your coders knew what the hell they were doing.
Sunmay Jagtap (40437): When you install the linksys software , does it ask
you in between the installation to plug the adapter In ?
Jim: I didn't install the adapter.
Jim: The device does not have to be plugged in to uninstall - at least not
with uninstall software that works.
Sunmay Jagtap (40437): So if the adapter is not installed properly using the
software , I am sure, there might be some issue uninstalling it . Linksys
software needs to be plugged the adapter in the computer in between the
installation and un installation .
Jim: That does not explain why I cannot uninstall the damned software, tell
me what file is missing that prevents me from uninstalling nor does it tell
me why I can't reinstall the software without uninstalling it first which _
and I may have mentioned this before -- I CANT FUCKING DO!!!!
Sunmay Jagtap (40437): Please click on the link below :
URL Received: http://kb.linksys.com/3847
Sunmay Jagtap (40437): Also in windows xp you do not need the linksys
software as linksys has a built in wireless utility called as easy link
advisor .
Jim: How the hell does a link teeling me how to install the device help this
situation?.
Jim: Have fun explaining this little conversation.....if I wanted to waste
my time, I wouldn't waste it with Linksys.
Sunmay Jagtap (40437): If the software can be loaded as you assume without
plugging the adapter , then it should get uninstalled as well , correct?
Jim: What?
Jim: I never said it could be loaded without the adapter!
Jim: Damned off-shore help desks.....
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Have a great day! And smile......after all, we don't *have* to use Linksys,
do we?

I can manipulate the specified font and font sizes to my satisfaction, which
I have done. However, none of this seems to have any effect on the
minuscule font sizes that appear elsewhere and over which, for the life of
me, I cannot see how I have any control. For example, the Display
Properties box has tiny font sizes, say size 4, Start/Favourites come up in
a tiny size, likewise Start/All Programs. Weird. Start on its own comes up
in big fonts. I can read the tiny fonts, but they why this behaviour and

XP Logging on then immediately logging off
I have an HP Pavillion desktop w/ XP (don't know if it's Home or Pro) that
logs off as soon as it logs on. I get welcome screen, logon screen, desktop
wallpaper, then logoff. This happens with the only account on the machine,

removed the HDD to another computer and replaced the userinit.exe file with
a known good one, then returned the drive to its host machine, but no
change. Further research suggests that a registry key may still point to a
wrong userinit.exe file or wrong path, and I would like to check the
registry to see if this is true. The key is supposed to be:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\
The value is supposed to be (on a machine with Windows installed to C):
C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe,
This computer is not on my network, so I can't connect to it's registry via
the network. I've booted into recovery console and it asks me to choose
between these two installs:
1. H:\MiniNT
2. H:\I386
I am confused by this because I think there is usually a C:\Windows option
here, or in this case, an H:\Windows. Looking at this drive's folder
structure on another computer, it has a G:\ drive and an H:\ drive. The H
drive has a Windows folder with an I386 folder inside that. The G drive I
believe is the recovery partition and has the MiniNT folder and an I386
folder at it's root. No Windows folder.
I don't know which installation to select and I don't know what commands to
enter to open or check the registry values to see if the key is correct. The
HP recovery utility says that I will have to reinstall all apps that didn't
come with the machine if I use it and I'd like to avoid that. Can anyone
help?
Many thanks,

Extremely low DVD sound (Media player)
Hia folks
I'm trying to set up PCs and laptops to read DVDs using the Media
Player. Video (and menus, etc) come out ok, but the sound is allways
so low I can barelly hear anything. Even with both sound levels at max
(windows and speaker knob) it's not even a whisper...
I've tried 2 movies on 1 PC and 1 laptop, diferent brands. They are
both on Windows XP Pro. The only thing I can think of is a possible
problem with the codec pack the original installer used... any
thoughts? Tag: TO DOWNLOAD 64-BIT XP PROFFESSIONAL OR SP3 OR SP4 Tag: 1917346
Illustrator keys mapping to different characters
I have a co-worker using Adobe Illustrator CS3 on a Windows XP Pro PC.
Starting last week he's noticed in Illustrator and ONLY Illustrator
whatever keys he presses provides the wrong characters. Like "A"
actually produces a "Q", etc.
He's tried reinstalling the program, but no change.
Any ideas what this could be??
Thanks,

Windows updates wreck display settings
Everytime I download the latest windows update my display settings go to
default: the display sets to the lowest resolution and all of my icons move
from their original position. It is as if the computer boots into safe mode,
(but the display does not indicate that specifically)
I have tried saving the desktop theme to no avail.
Each time I must reset all of the font sizes, re-arrange the icons and reset
the resolution. sometimes I must reboot 4 of 5 times to get it back to
normal. - if I simply reboot under normal conditions, this problem does not
occur.
What is causing this? Tag: TO DOWNLOAD 64-BIT XP PROFFESSIONAL OR SP3 OR SP4 Tag: 1917331
XP can't load personal settings, logs in as temp, fix eats all my
I'm running XP Media Center Ed. circa 2002 on an HP Pavillion, if that
matters. I'm afraid I can only describe my problems symptomatically, as I
don't have any technical knowledge on software.
My computer was fine, but a few days ago I booted it up only to have it
"loading personal settings" for a long time. It eventually logged me in, but
I found that my desktop picture (and all other personal settings) were gone
and my desktop was cluttered with, not my files, but Vongo, AOL free trial,
and a slew of other icons, possibly the same ones the computer started with,
but I'm not sure. What's weirder is that clicking "My Documents" only had My
Pictures, Videos, and Music in it, but they were empty except for the
samples. I checked my hard drive usage and all of my docs were still in
there, I eventually was able to access them by following the trail of icons
from My Computer. Other problems I encountered were that each time I
rebooted, Firefox would behave like I had never run it before and my Cookies
would be gone, but anything I downloaded to the Desktop would stay there. A
few times while logging in I got an error messages saying that I would be
logged in as a Temp user, but it appeared to log me in under my own username
anyway. Needless to say, I backed up all of my documents before doing
anything else. I tried a System Restore and was promptly told that nothing
had changed to restore.
My stepfather is a lot more computer-savvy than I am, and he tried to fix
it. He followed this advice:
http://www.computing.net/answers/windows-xp/xp-hangs-in-loading-your-personal-/148106.html
and I confess I have very little idea of what all that does. It helped
though; I can log in normally, retain Appearance settings, and keep cookies
from start to start. We also rearranged my files with cut and paste so My
Documents would actually have my documents in it, and went through /misconfig
to clean up my start-up. And boy, am I glad I backed everything up. Upon
restart my hard drive was twenty gigs lighter and My Documents is stark and
empty again.
I'm using said computer right now, and other than some brief hang-ups it
works. No scanner program or comparing it to my sister's identical, fully
functional computer shows anything wrong with it. Unfortunately it's also
eating my documents.
One help thread I looked in suggested reinstalling Windows completely and
wiping my hard drive clean. Really, I would love to. Unfortunately I've moved
a bunch recently and can't find my WXP CD for this computer, and from what
I've read Dell ones won't do the same thing. Is there anything else I can do
to sterilize and reset this machine without screwing it up? Tag: TO DOWNLOAD 64-BIT XP PROFFESSIONAL OR SP3 OR SP4 Tag: 1917330

Router problems Linksys
I have a 8 port Linksys router that works fine with three existing
computers. I decided to add a fourth which was a new Dell with Windows
XP home. This computer is accessible through the shared folders on the
networks but can not access the internet unless you unplug the router
and plug it back in. This works without fail until you get off the
internet and try to get back on. Then you have to unplug again. This
router is located approximately 60 feet away and requires stair climbing
to access router which tires me out.
1. Computer is accessible through shared folder without unplugging router.
2. Have tried different jacks on router, same results.
4. Tried jacks that other computers works on, same results.
3. Three other computers work fine on this same router.
4. Checked cable and even laid out a cable on the floor to upstairs with
same result.
Any other ideas?

XP keeps recreating user profile!
Hi,
does anyone know why on certain PC XP sometime keeps recreating the
user profile?
I mean, a user executes the logon and his current profile is ignored,
a new profile is created and obviously all his data disappears!
It happens randomly and not so sporadically (I have a user on whom pc
it happened 2 times in 3 weeks!)
I exclude it depends on "roaming profile" because we dont use roaming
profiles ;-)
We have a Windows 2000 domain.
Any idea?

Anti-virus transparent SMTP proxy settings
Hi,
Most of the anti-virus installs transparent proxy for port 25 (outgoing)
to scan the outgoing messages automatically.
How can I find out in general that a proxy has been installed. I need to

This setting must be saved somewhere in the registry!!

Repair Installing with Different Install Disc
I bought my copy of XP Pro OEM before SP1 and SP2. As they came along I
installed them on top of my old version. Now I have a few programs (one is
OE 6) that have been corrupted but still work after a fashion. I would like
to do a repair install but my install disc tells me that it can't do it
because my Win XP has been modified or upgraded or something like that.
But, I have a brand new unopened copy of XP-SP2 OEM that I plan to use to
build another system. Can I use that copy to repair the programs on my
current system?? If that is possible, would the repair do anything goofy
like implant its ID or serial number on top of my current install. Would it
do anything at all that would compromise my ability to use my new copy of
XP-SP2 OEM to build a new system?

What is c:/windows/installer?
I am trying to remove the last pieces of Norton software. I've run the
Symantec Removal Tool. Add/Remove programs shows something called:
Symantec Technical Support Web Controls still remaining. I have no idea
which program initially installed it and there is nothing on the Symantec
web site.
Clicking REMOVE gathers info and then says that it can't find
SymADataWeb.msi in c/windows/installer. Search finds neither the file nor
the folder on my computer. I can, however, download the msi file from the
Symantec web site but don't know where to put it.

After XP repair, can no longer do Windows update
I have a couple Dell pcs where I did an XP repair. Once it completed, the
glitchy problems we had were fixed, so we are happy. However, if we attempt
any Windows updates, they download, but all fail. No error message, just
says updates didn't install.
This also happens whenever we upgrade a pc with Windows 2000 to Windows XP.
I've done every Google search imaginable but all recommended solutions don't
pertain to our exact situations.
So upgrading, reinstalling, or repairing XP seems to disable the actual
install of updates.
Any help is much appreciated. Tag: TO DOWNLOAD 64-BIT XP PROFFESSIONAL OR SP3 OR SP4 Tag: 1917276
Why Does a WIn XP automatic update improperly close my outlook 200
I leave my Work PC on all the time, but "locked" when away for the night.
I have Windows Update set to Automatically download and install new updates.
I find it unreasoneable for Windows Update to "improperly close" my
Microsoft Office applications!
Windows should be able to make a hook to properly call an exit and then
check for it's proper termination at least for Microsoft's own applications!
I have checked the behaviour of office applications on exit, to ensure there
is no error or warning prompt happening, that may be "hanging" the proper
exit of any of the applications.
I have a large PST file (well below operational limits) that has to do a
scan for corruption every time Windows reboots itself from an automatic
update reboot.
I know I can simply set the Automatic Update to just download and not
install the updates, but this seems ridiculous.

Microsoft to stop selling Windows XP on Monday
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080630/ap_on_hi_te/microsoft_xp
REDMOND, Wash. - Microsoft Corp. is scheduled to stop selling its Windows XP
operating system to retailers and major computer makers Monday, despite
protests from a slice of PC users who don't want to be forced into using
XP's successor, Vista.
Once computers loaded with XP have been cleared from the inventory of PC
makers such as Dell Inc. and Hewlett-Packard Co., consumers who can't live
without the old operating system on their new machine will have to buy Vista
Ultimate or Vista Business and then legally "downgrade" to XP.
Microsoft will still allow smaller mom-and-pop PC builder shops to buy XP
for resale through the end of January. A version of XP will also remain
available for ultra-low-cost PCs such as the Asus Eee PC.
A group of vocal computer users who rallied around a "Save XP" petition
posted on the industry news site InfoWorld had been clamoring for Microsoft
to keep selling XP until its next operating system, Windows 7, is available.
The software maker has said it expects to release Windows 7 sometime in
2009.
Last week, Microsoft said it would provide full technical support for
six-year-old Windows XP through 2009, and limited support through 2014. Tag: TO DOWNLOAD 64-BIT XP PROFFESSIONAL OR SP3 OR SP4 Tag: 1917244

What is Kservice and why won't it start?
This is a regular recurring error showing in Event Viewer:
" Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7000
Date: 30/06/2008
Time: 00:47:34
User: N/A
Computer: KENNY-0CA1E1F67
Description:
The KService service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the path specified.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp."
Clicking on the link to MS doesn't help.
Event viewer just says it's Delivery Manager Service but no explanation of
what it is.
Googling it came up with "open services.msc" and start it from there.
Problem is it won't start, message is "Could not start the Kservice. Error
3: The system cannot find the path specified".
I'm trying to pin down a crashing and rebooting problem when I try to create
a virtual drive or using a usb mobile broadband dongle.
Any advice appreciated.
