Recently I noticed that my PLT files had lost their association with
my plot program GOPLOT.EXE. I tried to reassociate PLT files with the
program, but every time I do, Internet Explorer winds up as the
associated program.

Note that GOPLOT.EXE is a standalone executable and is not installed
via the normal installation procedures, thus it doesn't show up on the
default list of programs to associate with files, but in the past I
just browsed for the program, associated it with the PLT extension,
and it worked fine. GOPLOT.EXE still works if the PLT files are
dropped on its icon, but a double-click on the PLT file brings up
Internet Explorer.

Any ideas?

you might try
looking in the
registry.

click start>run>regedit

then go to the
file menu bar
and use the find
function.

then look for
that .plt

maybe it has a sub
key linking the ext
to the i.e.

I'm having a similar problem with my .jpg files. I am unable to assign it to
Photoshop CS2, as that program does not appear in the list of program files.
And, when I browse to the .exe file and click on it, still no association.

So I did the regedit find you suggested. What appears there is a sub-folder
named OpenWithList, which says Default REG_SZ (value not set). Do I just
enter the file name of the Photoshop exe file there?

if you delete the
key in the registry
then you can recreate
it via the folder options
file type dialog.

are you saying that when
you right click on
the jpg filename the
open with listing does
not allow you to browse
to that photoshop
executable?

i think you have
a different problem
because the program
is not listed than the
o.p.

No.The open with listing allows me to browse to the file I want, but when
double click on it, no association is created. So, I guess another question
is why isn't Photoshop CS2 not included on the open with list. Other CS2
applications (Illustrator, GoLivee etc) installed at the same time are on the
list. I should also note that Photoshop 5.5 which I haven't yet uninstalled
is on the list.
