    - For .... in loop I don't know if I'm hitting the right group, if not can somebody tell me which group to post in. I need to use Eseutil utility from Microsoft Exchange sever to copy a large folder(120 gig). Eseutil does not accept * character, therefore I need to use it in a " for .... in" DOS command. the root folder to copy from contains subfolders and files and the subfolder too contains subfolders and files. (each subfolder contains multi level of subfolders and files with different extensions) I need to use something as the following : myRootFolder> for /R %I in (.) do for /D %K in ("%I") do mkdir %K for /F %G in (dir %K /A:-D /B) do Eseutil /Y \\server1\c$\%G /D\\server2\d$\%G the command above is not correct.     - multiboot I am wondering if it is possible to remove an operating system from a multiboot system. I had windows xp crash on me and when doing a system restore was plagued with errors. I ended up setting up a multiboot system with the original windows xp showing up as the default operating system at startup but not able to start as a file is missing or corrupt. How do I get rid of the original messed up XP? See, we have this "deal" with the vendors, but don't mention this online, just blame the vendors instead. They don't care, they're getting rich too. Besides, they won't say anything if they know what's good for them. 3) If a poster protests or questions your reply, take it up a notch. Calling a poster stupid is usually sufficient to put them in their place. How dare they. Better yet, divert all attention by complaining about something totally unrelated, like top-posting or OT posts. Disparaging comments about the posters mental state or physical attributes are always a good way to sidestep any and all issues. 4) If a poster presents evidence that you are full of sh*t, merely sneer and call them a liar. Always question their sources and present links to OUR crapola, like the Upgrade Advisor or the Hardware Compatibility List. Remember, these are what we are paying Marketing for. Use them. Otherwise, when in doubt, simply lie (see #5). 5) Make stuff up. Technical expertise is not required on your part. Just reply with baffling diatribes comprised of whatever you can pull out of your butt. The more mind-numbing stupidity the better, this serves to leave posters with that "deer in the headlights" look while they try and comprehend what you just said. At the very least, this ought to keep them quiet for a while. And whatever you do, never fall into the trap of having to "prove" you point. Tell the posters to prove theirs instead. We are above such things. 6) "It works for me". This is quickly becoming the mantra of choice. It's benefits are twofold; #1) It clearly establishes you as technically superior to the poster, as well as smarter - go ahead, beat your chest like an ape, you've earned it. #2) It is just one more way to inform a poster of their obvious low IQ (see #3 above). Never pass on an opportunity to employ this tactic. Why? Because as long as we aren't actually going to help anyone, we may as well provide some sitcom quality entertainment. Good boy, have a banana. 7) If all else fails, simply call the poster a troll and encourage all your fanboy buddies to sing along. This is generally the easiest route since after all, we are Borg of Redmond. 8) Be sure and spend as mush as possible net-copping the newsgroup. This is just as good as offering any actual technical help, and it's far easier and much more fun. Berate posters that they're posting in the wrong newsgroup, or that their posts are off-topic. Best of all, be sure and post moronic "Rules of Conduct" in an effort to place yourself on a pedestal, rising above the rest of the mere mortals. However, NEVER belittle the newsgroup's pet morons, like Frank & Bill Yaniare. Yeah, we know they're just clueless doofuses, but they're so Pro-Anything-Microsoft, we just don't have the heart to ban their sorry asses. 9) Repeat steps 1-8 ad nauseum. Cut & Paste was designed just for this purpose. Remember, it's not a lie if YOU believe it. Never forget, this is all part of the grand design, to promote and protect the Church of Microsoft. Religious zealotry is our way of life, it is in our hands to seek out and crush the infidels where ever they may be. Microsoft is NEVER wrong, NEVER at fault.     - E-mail username & p/w had to be reentered after XP SP3 installed Last night I installed XP Service Pack 3 (SP3). But when I launched Outlook Express I got an error message (within a dialog box) when OE tried to connect to my mail server. The message said, "Please enter your user name and password for the following server: pop.west.cox.net". Note: This is the common error you get whenever your password or user name is incorrect in the SERVER tab for your e-mail account properties. I reentered the exact same "User Name" and "Password" that was already in the two edit boxes for this dialog box. After that I could read e-mail OK. Please note that this little anomaly seems to be ISP dependent. I have two ISPs and I therefore use two POP servers with Outlook Express. I had no problem with "pop.att.yahoo.com". The aforementioned problem ONLY existed with "pop.west.cox.net". The first server is for AT&T (formerly SBC Global). The second server is for ISP COX Communications. My residence: Southern California Has anyone else, who uses Outlook Express or Outlook, had to reenter their e-mail user name & password after installing SP3?     - Windows XP SP3 removed username from CTRL+ALT+DEL Hi, I have installed Windows XP SP3 on all my client Windows XP workstations through WSUS. When a user locks his workstation using CTRL+ALT+DEL and tries to unlock the workstation, their username is blank. Before SP3 the username was there and the user only had to type their password. Is there any way to get this back? Also their username is not displayed in the lock dialogue box. It shows no username at all. Thanks for any help.     - xp slow dos compress pkzip Hi Folks: Not a question here, just observations. We have an IBM running as a station monitor that runs software that saves log files; about 86 megs a day. It ran out of hard drive the other day. About time I guess.. I tried sending these to compress. Well, fist I could only do 1 file, because there was very limited hard drive. But, after 1, then 2, then 4, etc., and deleting the original files, I could 'compress' about a month's worth of files in a clip. I couldn't 'compress' 2 months, no matter how much free hard drive I had. Using 'compress' I could only do a month at a time. It took about 16 seconds a file (86 megs) and compressed very tight! A whole month compressed to about 60 megs! I noticed there is about 2 years of these files to compress.. That's a LONG time to compress! I just found PKZIP on a boot chip! Using the CMD window, our good 'ol virtual DOS window, I can 'pkzip' the all these files at once - over two years worth, and it takes 6 seconds a file. Over twice as fast in a 'virtual DOS box' it's causing FAR less drive activity, and I can still use the computer! In fact, I'm deleting the originals after PKZIP 'zips' them. Why is this?     - Right Click Drive, Then "File" From Context Menu, Freeze's. When I go to windows explorer and left click on any drive letter "so that it becomes hilighted" and then left click on "File" or "Edit" from the context menu the computer freeze's. I then Ctrl-Alt-Del to end windows explorer and I'm back at the desktop. The computer is no longer froze and works fine. If I The same thing also happens if I right click any drive letter so I can create a new folder. This does not happen if I left click or right click on a folder, Only drives, such as c:, d: I reloaded windows XP Pro using the repair option and It did not do ithis until I installed SP2 and all the microsoft updates, at least it apears that way. I have Autocad 2007 installed on this computer and need to install the 2008 upgrade but would like to resolve this issue first.     - Text in ASP Scripts Hidden From Windows Search Found some interesting behavior in Windows Search (Start => Search => All files and folders => search for "A word or phrase in the file:"). This applies to XP and maybe other Windows flavors. Procedure: 1. Create a simple text file named test.txt. 2. Open the text file in a text editor and add a simple test word such as "blah" (not quotes). 3. Save the text file. 4. Using Windows search, attempt to locate this new text file by searching for files containing the word "blah" (no quotes). Recommend limiting search to folder that contains the new text file and deselect search subfolders option. 5. The file should be found. 6. Change the file extension of the text file from .txt to .asp. 7. Redo the search. 8. The file should be found. 9. Reopen the text file (now named test.asp) in a text editor. 10. Change the string "blah" to "<% blah %>" (without quotes). [The brackets delineate script in asp files.] 11. Save the changes. 12 Redo the search. 13. The file is NOT found. Interesting. There must be some security concern related to .asp files with embedded scripts relative to Windows Search. I wonder if there is a KB article or something about to this. I have not been able to find anything. Can anyone shed any light on this behavior? Does anyone know of a good tool to find files containing a specific string/pattern?     - Share folder on corporate network, can't find on other end Hello, So for various reasons, the best way I can share this one file with several co-workers is to a share a file off my hard drive. We are all on the same network and anytime they'd need it my computer would be on. I was able to use Windows built in help to "Share the folder" with my co-workers but once on their machines I could not figure out how to go find the shared folder. I have a feeling I need an IP Address, and if so, you'll need to tell me how to find it. So how can I get this shared folder so that everyone can see it and access it?     - SP3 - Access is denied Hi, I receive this "Access is denied"-error when trying to install the Service Pack 3 for Windows XP. When trackign down the error in the svcpack.log (see udnerneath), it has apparently something to do with missing rights on my registry, which is quit bizar because I am Administrator on my machine. I gave my user explicit full control on my registry, but I still have this error. Does anybody has any idea how to fix this problem?     - sp3 and ftp command line I just installed XP sp3 on a computer within our domain. Now, ftp from a command line does not work. It connects, you can login, you can change directories, you can rename and even delete files. But, if you try ls, dir, get, or send, those commands timeout. After those commands timeout, the connection remains open and you can still do the previous commands listed, but not get,send,ls,dir. Just as a test, I opened the ftp site from within IE and it works fine in there, I can copy and paste, rename, delete files. Windows Firewall and ICS are both disabled. Last Friday, I installed sp3 on my own workstation, and I do not have any of these same problems. So, to further test it, I installed sp3 on another computer. This third computer has the same problems with ftp that the first one has. And, something else that might be related... With a domain admin account, I can pull up Computer Management for my computer remotely, but not the 2 that have the ftp problems. And, this problem is usually fixed by disabling Windows Firewall or configuring Windows Firewall to allow those type connections. The only difference between these 3 computers is that on mine, I used our internal WSUS server to apply the service pack. The other 2 computers, I downloaded the sp3 distribution, WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe, from Microsoft and installed that. I didn't want to apply sp3 domain wide, so I figured I'd just install it on a few computers first. Any help would be much appreciated!! Using method A and waiting a while before waking up causes the drive to be unavailable until unplug and replug it in. It is visible in Explorer but you can't read/write to it.     - FAT32 extended partition not recognized as an XP Drive - but can I have a strange situation.. PC Info: AMD X2 4800+, 300gb Seagate SATA drive, 4 gb mem (2 sets dual channel), XP Media Edition. HD partitioned 4 drives (C & D - Fat32, E & F - NTFS) My PC froze last week and I had to press (Ugh!) the reset button. After it rebooted, it went into CHKDSK (which I expected), but it scanned my D Drive first, then went to C, and froze at 30%. After a while I finally reset it again and this time it scanned C: first and finished and then stated that it couldn't check D:, because D: was not an XP drive. My system starts (very, very slowly) and runs (very very slowly), and my D: drive is listed, but not accessible (not a windows drive). Now the weird (and Lucky) part.... I booted with a Win98se floppy and was able to get (using a great free long filename utility) my data off the D: drive, which DOS was able to display. I copied it to the C: drive for recovery off my network. Now the Questions... What can I do to get the D: drive to show back up in Windows and why can I see the data in DOS but not in windows?     - XP SP3 - SVCHOST.EXE USES 100% CPU - AUTOMATIC UPDATE SERVICE BROK I reloaded XP PRO on my Dell 810 twice with the same result. After install of SP3, I tried installing other updates but windows update fails and says another automatic update is pending and has to complete first. The problem: when she tries to access a picture that was just sent to "my pictures" or one on her desk top the following message pops up. I use pcAnywhere and leave my home pc as the 'Host' but by the time I get to
work and try to log INTO my home pc, XP Professional has already timed out
and it's at the sign in screen where someone has to type the password to get
back into the account with the Host running. Is there any way I can STOP
this automatic Log Off so that my account stays active and my pcAnywhere Host
is accessible?

By god - that's one place I never checked. I putzed around with User
Accounts and couldn't get it to change... you're right... there was a check
mark beside "On resume, display Welcome screen" in the screensaver popup.
