Softare: WindowsXP Pro PCs (latest patches) / Windows2003 Server
network

Hi

Any idea why my PCs stop talking to each other correctly after about
30 minutes?

There is something weird going on. I have two PS - a desktop and a
laptop.
They are both on the same Domain. But why is it that after a while
(say 30 minutes
sometimes longer) my desktop suddenly stops being able to "see" my
Laptop?
When I try to navigate to the laptop from the desktop through Windows
Explorer using:
=> My Network Places > Entire Network > OurDomainName > LaptopName
there is a very long pause and finally it comes back with a dialog-box
saying
"Connecting to LaptopName" and asks for my UserName and PW.
But when I enter it, it moans at me saying "The user name you typed is
the same
as you logged in with. That user name has already been tried. A domain
controller
can not be found to verify that user name".

But when I log off and log on again - it works first time. But that is
a pain to have to keep logging off !

Strangely my Laptop can usually still see my desktop PC without a re-
boot.

What's going on - any thoughts?

Btw, I am getting the following error messages in my application log:

[Note for security reasons I have changed the domain and user name in

Policy processing aborted.

Windows saved user OURDOMAIN\myusername registry while an application
or service was still using the registry during log off. The memory
used by the user's registry has not been freed. The registry will be
unloaded when it is no longer in use.

This is often caused by services running as a user account, try
configuring the services to run in either the LocalService or
NetworkService account.

Open Device Manager, open the properties on your ethernet card, click
the Power tab, and deselect "Allow the computer to turn off this device
to save power".

Okay I'll try that. The PC didnt have a power tab on either of the
Network Adapters
("1394 Net Adapter" and "NETGEAR FA311 Fast Ethernet Adapter") -
however
the laptop did and I have changed its setting. Great - let's see what
happens then!
