Hello
I am trying to update a laptop which has windows xp pro sp1 installed. I
cannot run windows update because i get the error message "Due to the
security settings on this machine activex will not run" i have gone into
internet explorer 6.1 and set all the security settings to low and enabled
all of the settings regarding activex controls. I still get the error. what
do i do now? also, i tried downloading service pack 2 and installing it
manually, and i keep getting the error "Cannot find the specified file"
unfortunately, it does not tell you what the specified file is. HELP! I am
stuck.

just a shot......
try adding windowsupdate.microsoft.com to the trusted sites zone
also uncheck the checkbox that says something like:
only use secured websites in this zone.
