I tried to install SP3 yesterday all went well then the machine would not
reboot, BSOD. I eventually got it to boot by going into safe mode via F8 key
the safe mode following failed install would not work. The error is that ACPI
is not fully compatible, all was fine with the desktop prior to installing
the new SP3. I have uninstalled SP3 and restored to earlier than installation
of SP3 but still get the stop error.
If I use F8 and boot ignore failure machine works fine in normal it just
will not boot on its own with the ACPI error.
No changes in hardware has been done to PC for over 6 months when upgraded
memory to 4 Gig.

I installed SP3 yesterday and was annoyed to find that my Graphics Card no
longer worked. When I looked in Device Manager there was an exclamation mark
against the processor to AGP controller.

I had to do a System restore to get back to SP2 and fortunately everything
seems to be working again.

Why would Microsoft want to screw up an excellent OS that must still be in
use by many owners with older hardware items.

Nothing about a Personal Computer is static or stationary. There are
always issues and incompatibilities between the OS/Drivers & Apps.
It is very common that updating one thing requires an update of another.

Instead of rolling back you probably should have re-applied a chipset
driver package so the system components are correctly detected and
have the correct drivers installed.

Microsoft doesn't "Plan" to screw up any product. In your case the
issue isn't SP3 but likely a problem with a sub-system driver. Users
do not understand the interactions and always point the blame at MS
which is not always deserved.

I have all the latest drivers for my Motherboard installed so why would a
Microsoft Update require me to reinstall these same drivers and why would I
get a message that my Video Drivers (the latest available) were not
compartible with the hardware I have which is unchanged.

Can't say for sure, but SP3 would install a new ACPI.Sys and PCI.sys
drivers on the computer. Maybe your BIOS firmware revision is not
fully ACPI compliant with SP3. Sometimes it is just a particular setup
( Or combination ) that has problems. There is no way that any software
can be fully tested to work with every configuration that exists.

Hi Update,
I did a complete rebuild as when removed SP3 still had errors. Installed XP
sp2 from cd and only loaded drivers needed for motherboard and Kaspersky
update wanted to install SP3 did and got ACPI error again will try to update
the drivers on Machine and see if I can get rid of the error. If I use F8 and
stop restart on failure all works fine.

I have the latest and final BIOS firmaware so I shall get in touch with MSI
regarding this problem. Thanks for the responses.
