    - updating internet explorer Trying to update IE 5.5 to IE 6. It goes through the installation process but then a window pops up saying unable to install all components. Even with all other programs closed, it still won't install completely. Tag: windows XP SP 2? Tag: 250967

    - Auto Updates Over flow I have a acer 3690-2196(Mod) I am almost out of memory. I clean out my Extra programs that I dont use. I do the scan disk. If I go to control panel then to Add or remove programs. I dont see any thing else to delete. Except the 2 pages of updates from security updates to hotfixes for xp. I have 60 gb. C =30 and D= 30. C , I only have 3 gb andits SLow. D, HAs 25gb left 1 Am I sappose to have so many updates ? 2 Is there something I can do ? Earase them ? 3 Is there some way of putting some data on the D partition ?     - SP1: What to do? My father, who has Vista Home Premium, received his update last weekend through Windows Update. I have Vista Ultimate, but haven't seen SP1 at all through Windows Update. After doing some research, I noticed that SP1 has some issues with Sigma Tel drivers, which I currently have installed.     - Microsoft Update and Software Restrictions Policy We use Software Restriction Policy (SRP) to limit access to certian parts of our harddrives. First and foremost is the root C:\ Recently Microsoft Updates that run out of randomly named folders (e.g. .NET 2.0 SP 1, IE 7, etc...) have started failing, citing SRP as the cause. This fails whether an automatic update occurs or I am logged in as a local administrator. I have SRP set for "All users except local administrators" but that does now work. Any ideas?     - Infinite Loop during Windows Update Scan? This has occurred at least 3 or 4 times over the last several years and I can`t remember what I did to fix it !     - Very annoying Wuauclt.exe I have recently been having a problem when I initially connect to the internet. After connecting my computer will start running wuauclt.exe and will not allow me to perform any other function. I have read other posts about this but can not find anyone with the same end result. After wuauclt.exe has finished I can use my computer with no other problems. Everyone else seems to have other problems. I have already looked at the respective KB's and loaded the latest update program and hotfix but the problem still occurs. The only way I can stop the 'hang' is if I completely disable Automatic checking for updates. My computer is officially 'clean' so I know that this is not a contributing factor. The update will say " could not load writer " dont worry just reboot and run service pack again, this time it will update " writer " you should be good to go....     - KB943729 - startup issue I ran MS Upgrade search & installed upgrade KB943729. Afterwards when I tried to restart the PC it gave me the option to go to SETUP or run setup through the network. It would not allow me to pick either <F2/del> or F8. Even when I tried to run XP in SAFE mode, it would get to select the operating system screen and wouldnâ??t allow me to hit enter. After a few time of restarting the PC, I was able to get XP up and running. The first time I did a restore back a few days from install & that didnâ??t help. The second time I backed out the upgrade through the control panel as the upgrade document recommended. Do you think that I might be able to restart my PC, after this weekend, without a problem.     - Windows Mobile 6.1 Update breaks sync Hi, I had an "optional update" to install Windows Mobile 6.1 and "Microsoft Corporation - Networking - Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter. " That was a mistake. First, it wouldn't sync. "ActivSync has a problem with the desktop." Then, it deleted all the contacts, tasks, files, etc. from my PPC-6800. I rebooted. I reset. I deleted the sync partnership and added it back. Then, the system reported "Pocket Quicken 2.5 needs attention". ? ? ? ? Could not find how or where it needed attention. So, I unchecked the "Quicken" sync block. Now, the sync center reports something like "mobile center encountered a problem with the desktop." What gives? I did a system restore about 3 days before this update . . . the "Microsoft Corporation - Networking - Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter" is still installed as an update . . . I thought System Restore was supposed to remove all that? Now, it seems to start to synch, and it just hangs. I thought if you had Windows update failures, you had free support? What do I do now?     - Windows Update and SP1 SP1 would not appear for me in the Windows Update even though all hardware and software met MS' spec's for Vista. I did upgrade my sound card and software in order to meet spec's. I decided to download SP1 from MS download page to get the standalone version. I didn't need to un-hook USB devices as was recommended in these NG's and I didn't need to disconnect my UPS. Mater of fact SP1 recommends that you connect to a UPS so you won't lose power while installing. The only things I did disable where Windows Defender Fire walls and Virus autoscan protection.     - IE7, WindowsUpdate yields HTTP 400 Error New installation of MS WXP Pro with SP2, NIS 2008. The machine connects to the Internet, the IPConfig /All looks right, MS Messenger connects, as does e-mail. Yet IE7 yields an HTTP 400 error on every attempt to connect to a web page but the first one. Meaning - if I Reset IE7 in Internet Options I can connect to the Microsoft.com home page, but can NOT click on any link from there. I cannot at any time open WindowsUpdate nor MicrosoftUpdate. Other web pages fail too. All MS Updates were installed earlier this month, NIS 2008 appears to be updating fine and has the most current version of its updates - from the best that I can tell.     - Possible reason for SP1 not listed at Windows Update I posted earlier about not finding SP1 listed when I use Windows Update; I might now know why. I had gone through the eight reasons why SP1 might not be listed, and thought I had covered them all. I knew that the 'bad' Microsoft driver file ks.sys was listed in conjunction with a Logitech webcam, but, not having a Logitech webcam I figured that bit of info didn't apply to me. But yesterday when I was again trying to figure out why SP1 wasn't listed I did a system search, and sure enough ks.sys was there in the driver files. So maybe that is the whole reason. The article says that Microsoft will issue an update to correct the problem with ks.sys, and then SP1 will be available for those systems that presently have the 'bad' version.     - Vista SP1 error code: 0x80070059 Been trying to install SP1 on a Vista Basic machine for 24 hours now. I'm using a standalone Vista SP1 package that I have used on 3 other Vista boxes with no trouble. On this HP lappy it will always error out with an error code: 0x80070059. I have: 1. Run chkdsk 2. Memory test 3. sfc /scannow 4. And the only answer I see in a half hour of Googling.     - Update to Sigma Tel Audio Codec Drivers for Vista sp1 I called microsoft yesterday asking what will be done via this problem for those who cannot get updated drivers for the Sigma Tel audio driver. The problem is Sigma no longer makes audio drivers and passed it off to another company who told me they are not making updated drivers at all for this type of audio codec. So how do you get updated drivers if you cannot? I have been on many forums via Dell and Gateway and thousand of customers have the same problem. First microsoft was giving advise to uninstall the driver and allow Vista to find its own drivers for this. Many did this and found they still had no sound. Microsoft also said to uninstall drivers, put sp1 on and then reput back the driver for sigman tel. Many who did this found after the sp1 install, when trying to put back the driver, Vista now came back with an error msg saying "This driver is not compatable for Vista" so they wound up again with no sound. Well after talking to the tech and he confirmed that this is what was being said- now when people call in they are telling them not do do anything and wait because microsoft is working on a solution to this. They say it will show up in Windows Update either a patch or fix for this problem.     - sound issues. I downloaded an update for my sound the other day and now I can't get sound from my computer. When I do a diagnostic and test my speakers, I can hear sound from the test, but with no other sound function.
