I downloaded an update for my sound the other day and now I can't get sound
from my computer. When I do a diagnostic and test my speakers, I can hear
sound from the test, but with no other sound function. My computer says my
sound system is working properly, YET I still have no sound other then doing
a test function for my speakers. This happened when I downloaded this update
before, and I did a go back to an early date thing to remove the updates
thinking there was a glitch in the update.

Do I need to do this again, or is there a different solution?

Hi there,

Hopefully you did not take that driver from windows update?

Never take drivers from windows update unless they are intended for
Microsoft hardware.

If an updated driver is needed because the hardware does not work proper go
to the manufacturers website to look for an updatede driver.

If it ain't broke: do not try to"FIX" it.

If you did take the optional drivers from windows update try booting last
known good configuration, rolling back on the driver or use system restore
in safe mode prior to a date of the problem or restore from the full system
backup you hopefully made.

Assuming you are using Windows XP: here you can see how to roll back on a
device driver:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/driverrollback.mspx

You can disable the update appearing when automatic updates is set by going
to the windows update website and unmark (hide) driver in question.

Best regards,
Michel Denie

Is this related to Vista?

You experience problems with sound after you install Windows Vista Service Pack 1
