I am experiencing precisely the same problem. Only in my case I am told that
I have 5 windows updates to download. It starts to download 1 then 2
.........5. THEN I receive the message 5 updates "failed" error 800736B2.
Come on Microsoft explain your self. There does not seem to be any
explanation of how to overcome this problem.
It is comforting that I am not alone in this difficulty
