I have no idea what this code means or why it keeps poping up when I try and
download Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (KB936330). I'm not overly techinical
with computers, so I have no idea how to fix my computer and solve the
problem. I tried following the help and support steps, where I was supposed
to go into certain folders and delete files and it didn't work. I am
basically asking for help from anyone who knows how to fix it or can give me
an idea of how to correct the problem.

Media Playback
I run decent computer (see below). After installing SP3 while playing music
on itunes, nothing new there, my music lags. And it seems as the play back
slows down to about a tenth of the normal speed, and then starts playing
normally.
Any ideas why? I don't think it is a hardware issue becuase it only does it
for media. Happens to DVDs and youtube as well.

Update failure on WIN2000
I am running Win2000 SP 4 on my home-built machine, MSI K7N2 Delta
bios. Untill a couple weeks ago, I was getting updates OK. Right now,
when I try to get updates, MS finds four critical. When I try to
download and install, the machine hangs for maybe 10 minuted, then
gives me a message that the updates filed. No significant error
message. I have disabled Zonealarm and f-prot to no effect and
tried to do the upgrades from SAFE mode, also to no effect.

On Wed 10 Sep 09 software was automatically installed on my pc. The system
checkpoint is called 'Software Distribution Service 3'. Since then every time

When I try do do a defrag (which I have had no problem with before) I get an
error message stating " MMC has detected an error in a snap - in. It is
recommended that you shut down and restart MMC." I have no idea what MMC is

Installing Windows XP SP3
I've been resisting the installation of SP3 because I've used
automatic updates for all SP2 patches. However, many posts on this NG
offer sufficient reasons to accept SP3. At last count, I have 140
Knowledge Base updates in my Windows folder. To save space on my hard
drive, would it be acceptable to uninstall all these updates and then
install SP3? Does anyone know of any problems this would create? Of
course, I would back up my hard drive before trying this routine.

I have tried several times on both my desktop and my laptop. On both
machines I get an error message saying, "A device connected to your
computer is not functioning." It then stops and undoes what it was
doing. The next time I start the computers, there's the update icon

Can't get the Automatic Update service to be automatic in services
I'm trying to update my Windows XP Pro after being infected by a virus, I've
scanned the computer several times and I've found the virus, it's in a file
called qoMcbcDs.dll, located in the C:\Windows\System32\ and I've tried
everything to delete it (command, safe mode etc) , but with no success
because the file is "in use" at all times.
So, I tought, I have to try to update my Windows definitions. But when I
tried it, the internet based update service told me I've got some services
inactive, and gave me instructions to activate them. So I ran the
services.mcs and tried to set the Automatic Update to Automatic (from
Inactive), but when I hit apply the status went back to Inactive, sometimes
it stayed Automatic and when I hit the Start button, I got a pop-up saying
that the service Automatic Update couldn't be started on the Local Computer.
Error 1058: Service can't be started. The reason is that the service is
either blocked or there's no active devices to be associated with (translated
from Swedish).
The other two services, Background Intellient Transfer Service and Eventlog,
are in order. It was when the BITS was stopped that the Aut.Upd. went
inactive when applying, but when started, as it shall be, the Aut.Upd. went
to automatic but when trying to start the service, I got the Error.
What is the problem here? What shall I do to get it active and started, in

I recently got a new hard drive and have been busily getting all my stuff

Tonight I decided it was time to update my new laptop to SP3. It currently
is running WinXP Pro SP2. I clicked on the Automatic Update shield and
discovered 22 available updates, including SP3 and IE7. My question: Would
it be best to uncheck everything but SP3 for now and do the rest after I

After windows updates KB951978 and KB936929, my internet explorer browser
won't open by clicking on the explorer icon. However, I found I could go to
this Microsoft Update through my Programs to get to the internet. How do I

I tried to install repeatedly KB955302 both on Automatic Update and by
manually downloading the french version file setup from microsoft, with all
my firewall, antivirus and antispyware shut off (I have AVAST 4.8, Comodo 3
and SpySweeper 5.8) but it fails each time. The computer shuts down as if it
was installing it but automatic download is then asking me to install it
again. I contacted the free email technical help without much success,

Windows won' start up
I was insatlling updates and it configured 2 of 3 updtaes at the start up and

What I have discovered is that Quake 3 Demo interferes with downloading
updates at least as far as updates for Windows Defender is concerned.
It is not much of a problem because I think that Windows Defender is not
really that great but, it is free and probably does no harm. :)

I am having this problem and have tried all the advice I can find. I have:

the alert of new updates shows up everyday, I download it, it shows that it
was succesful. The log shows it was successful, but I went to uninstall it
and there is no update with this code (KB936181) in the "Installed Updates"
file. Confusing...I tried the command prompt (ren
%windir%\System32\msxml4.dll msxml4.old) it says "access denied"...the
command prompt shows C:\users\eric> so I believe it recognizes me as the
administrator...I manually try to do the update along with (KB941833) that
was recommended to increase the compatibility and when I do so I get an error
message "Error opening installation log file. Verify that the specific log
file location exists and is writable".

I have just reformatted and reinstalled xp home on my computer. After
installing I started doing updates and service pack 3 was one of the first
updates it installed. I'm not 100% sure but I think that was the last
successfull update I have been able to get. If I find the update elswere and
manually download and install I can still get them, however I can not get any
updates through Windows Update. It downloads them then I get a message that

Windows Explorer
After system restoring my Windows XP i have lost my Windows Explorer and all
add ons. I just have a blank screen with two tool bars that i cannot use and
a tab with customize settings written on it. On top of that my computer will
not download a newer version from Microsoft it shows that its downloading but
never does !!!!
It wont let me contact Microsoft help and support or Update my Norton
Security but i still can use my Windows Messenger and Hotmail if i access it

I downloaded an Acer LCD (AL1916w) driver from the Update Catalog. The
filename is quite long with a .cab extension. What is the setup and install
procedure for a Vista computer. As I understand, Vista looks in the driver
store for updates. Do I need to import into the driver store, if so, how?

I have downloaded the latest vista updates twice now and each time my junk
email bypasses the junk email folder all settings are unchanged. After doing

For some reason, I cannot get sound on my internet. I get sound using Itunes
and turning on the computer. I am missing a sound driver? Tag: restarting interrupted update installation Tag: 270796
I inadvertantly restarted my computer while it was installing XP and Office
updates. How do get installation to continue?
