I use Windows Update and it usually runs smooth.
But, I am getting a failed installation for the Microsoft .net 2.0 framework
(KB110806). I looked at some of the other posts on this forum and still
can't figure out the problem. Can anyone help?

Mario,

See: The .NET Framework 2.0 SP1 installation fails on a computer that
has the .NET Framework 2.0 installed and that is running Windows XP,
Windows Server 2003, or Windows 2000
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/951950

If either a registry 'cleaner' and/or a disk cleanup tool have been
used, then you can rectify the installation issue caused by them by
running the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Registration Correction Tool.

Thanks for the response. I used the framework registration correction tool.
I used the clwireg-x86.exe download. It said that most users have 32 bit
version, so that is why I used this one. I downloaded and installed it
successfully. However, the same problem persisted. So, I went to
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917283
I downloaded the windows installer 3.1.
The same problem persists.
Any other ideas?
Thanks

The Windows Installer threw up an error when you tried to install it ?
I fail to see where in the MSKB article it tells you to reinstall
Windows Installer.

The Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Registration Correction Tool creates a
log after it's run.
Go to Start > Run > copy and paste the below into the Open: line and
then click OK or press Enter:

%temp%\dd_clwireg.txt

dd_clwireg.txt will now be open.
Copy and paste the contents of the log into your reply, please.

Regarding the installer, I didn't get error messages about the installer.
But on the link you provided, it mentioned the windows installer cache. So ,
I clicked on the the link to fix the Windows Installer Cache.
Here is the log from the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Registration

Slight case of confusion, Mario. The windows installer cache references
in the registry were cleaned up, according to the log.

This is suppose to allow the installation of .NET 2 SP1
Are there any updates listed directly under and, for .NET 2 in
Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel ?

Normal ? Define normal. <w>
Suggest you uninstall Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 or, see if it can
Repaired by clicking the Change button in Add/Remove Programs.
IF it can not be Repaired nor uninstalled, we'll go from there, Mario.

OK, I tried to repair it, and it bombed out. So, I tried to uninstall it.
It said the computer needed to restart after the uninstall was done. For the
last few weeks I have had a ! in my system tray telling me that the .net 2.0
was ready for installing. That is now gone. But when I went to add/remove
programs, it is still there. When I went to Windows update to check which
updates were successfull, it still shows .net 2.0 as unsuccessful. Man, now
I am totally confused.
Also, when I went to windows update, I was prompted to download XP service
pack 3. I did not, but should I????

Hold off on SP3 for the mowment, Mario. Download Automated cleanup tool
to remove the .NET Framework 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.0 and 3.5:
http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2006/05/30/611355.aspx

Run it and have it remove .NET 2.0
If a message appears saying that it can not be removed, leave the tool
open and reboot.
When the system comes up, check in Add/Remove Programs to see if .NET
Framework 2.0 is listed.
As stated by Aaron:
> If you run the cleanup tool, you will need to perform a repair or reinstall for all other versions of
> the .NET Framework that are on your computer to get them to work correctly afterwards.

I've run the tool and removed .NET Frameworks but have yet to encounter
a situation where other versions had to be repaired or reinstalled.
YMMV. If you find that .NET 1 or 1.1 have encountered this situation,
then try a Repair or Remove from ARP {Add/Remove Programs) FIRST, before
employing the cleanup tool to remove them.

Then manually download, save, and install .NET Framework 2 -
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0856eacb-4362-4b0d-8edd-aab15c5e04f5&displaylang=en

Do the same with .NET Framework 2 SP1.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=79BC3B77-E02C-4AD3-AACF-A7633F706BA5&displaylang=en

IF you *have* to repair/remove .NET 1 and 1.1, *remember* to UNinstall
the updates for them *first*.
Manually download, save, and reinstall them from the MS Download Center:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/Search.aspx?displaylang=en

Enter the .NET Framework desired into the Search field and then click
Search. At the bottom of each .NET Framework download page there are
*usually* links to the updates and SPs for them.

After the .NET Frameworks have been restored to a working order, then
read this prior to obtaining XP SP3, please:

Steps to take before you install Windows XP Service Pack 3

Re: microsoft .net framework 2.0 fails to install by Mario

Mario

Hi Mowgreen,
Ok, I used the tool and got a message saying that it could not be reomved.
So, I left the program open and rebooted. When the computer rebooted, I want
to add/remove programs and .net 2.0 was not there(Yea). So, I attempted to
install (from your link) and it failed. It says, The following error
occurred during setup:
"Windows installer service could not be accessed. Contact your support
personnel to verify that the windows installer service is properly
registered. For more information, visit the following site:" Here is the
link;
http://support.microsoft.com/ph/8291
Should I re-use the framework registration tool?
Thanks again,
Mario

Do I need to
