WE found the driver for Sigma Tel Audio for sp1

Ok someone on the dell forum actually found an updated driver on Dells
website and it is actually in the wrong place but it is for the E520, E521
and a bunch more.
This driver is R173209.exe
it is version 6.10.0.5515

to get it

http://support.us.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R173209&formatcnt=1&libid=0&fileid=235508

When you go to install it- it will show you all the systems it can go on
If yours is NOT listed just cancel the install.

It works!
as soon as I rebooted about an hour later WU asked me to install sp1

took about 45min with downloading and installing but so far no problems at
all and I have sound

Good detective work! Anybody have a source update for the Inspiron
1420? The most recent one I can find dates from last year, and the
newer ones are for desktops.

go to the dell foums
and click on Desktop then click on "audio"
you might find a solution there

Unfortunately, been there, done that, got the T-shirt, but no drivers.

I extracted the driver package from the link that RobinB posted and then
opened the included Version.txt to see what systems the drivers are for:

Computers : DV061;
Dimension - 5100, 5100C, 9100, C521, DC051, DM051, DM061, DV051,
Dimension - DXC051, DXC061, DXP051, DXP061, E521;
OptiPlex - 210L, 740;
Precision - 380, 390, 490, 690;
XPS - 420, DXG061, XPS 720, XPS710

Inspirons are notincluded in the list.
