There's something wrong with this picture. KB955020 is a "Critical Update"
to add these words to the Windows dictionary.

How is adding new words to the dictionary a critical update? Microsoft puts
all the development, packaging, desting, and deployment efforts of a Windows
Update for something the user could add by simply choosing Add from the
spellcheck menu? Is there more to this update than meets the eye?

Dunno but it is not a "critical" update.

Here's a screenshot from WSUS:

I agree that it shouldn't be a critical update; that's why I am trying to
investigate further before approving. Microsoft is not automatically on my
trusted sources list.

You don't happen to know if there is an equivelent to SysDiff that will work
with Vista? I'd like to see for sure what this update does on a Vista VPC
before deploying it.

Yes. Look at what the Word spell checker offered as suggestions:

Still not critical in my opinion, but the lawyers might have thought so.

Thanks, Steve.

Now it makes sense why they would call this critical. Sort of like the font
they replaced a few years ago because of "inappropriate symbols". Microsoft
should have just owned up on this one like they did on that font issue and
said that not having those words in the dictionary was resulting in
inappropriate suggestions.

That's one of several reasons that I don't just automatically trust
Microsoft updates, downloads, or third-party suggestions; they're just not
always up front when they screw up.

Well, with the info that you provided, now I can go ahead with this update.

Thanks again,

Dale
