I am using HP523 compac desktop , almost 10years old and still runs 100% well
on XP home edition SP2 .
Noticed microsoft update doesn't connect or work manually.
Still all systems go and functioning correctly.
Is there any advantage for an old desktop to use SP3 ???

SP3 is consists mostly of all the Security/functionality/reliability
updates issued since SP2 came out. In addition, Windows Script 5.7 and
NAP are included with SP3.

If Microsoft Update is not functioning and the system is NOT updating,
than the system is NOT functioning correctly and is at risk.

Please do a manual visit to MU from either the Start Menu link or open
Internet Explorer and click Tools, Windows Update.
When updating fails, close IE.
Go to Start > Run > type in or copy&paste the below into the Open: line
and then click OK or press Enter

%windir%\windowsupdate.log

Scroll all the way to the bottom of the log for the most recent entries.
Copy and paste the last 50 or so lines into your reply, please.

No, it's a High Priority update.
