    - Updates failed to Install Hi 1) I've tried stopping the service and loading the recommended command prompts into the registry and then re-starting the service 2) I've downloaded an updated installer Neither one of these usual corrections seems to work in my case. I was wondering if anyone else had the same problem with different or additional methods of correction? This started when I had to do a partial restore on my computer due to a virus.     - Windows XP Media Center Updated to Service Pack 3 and now have pro I just updated to service pack 3 so that my xbox360 could link through my computer. Now when I right click on the desktop and try to add a background or a screen saver those options arent even there. Also when my computer is idle for 20 min (when my screensaver used to go on) it now goes to this blue screen that says there is a hardware error (roughly the numbers F764709) and once I press enter it takes me back to where I was at on my computer.     - Update error code 80070663 Hi, Have recently started getting the above error code for any Office 2007 updates (all appear to be security updates starting with the KB951596-related update which was issued on 12th August. There are now 6 updates all with the same problem. I have Office 2007 ultimate and am trying to install on Vista 32 bit (SP1). All other MS updates install correctly. I've searched for help on this (and not found much) - just to say that I have tried the suggestions in the KB article 913754 and have also tried downloading and installing the updates separately. I have also tried doing this in safe mode - all to no avail. Please let me know if there's any other additional info needed to start to address this (I run Kaspersky 2009 and it's clearly set to allow appropriate access for these downloads).     - unable to install kb953839 on vista sp1 and sp1 was manually insta I've read threads about this update and have tried diabling my mcafee firewall during the install of this activex killbits update. it still didn't install. I had to manually install the vista sp1 update when it came out. To date, all other updates (pre and post 8/12 when this update was released) have been successful.     - Lockup and Slowdown Problems after installing August Critical Updates I am running SeaMonkey v1.1.11 and Quicken 2006 under Windows XP Professional. The computer is a 2.8GHz Pentium D820 Dual-Core with 1GB of RAM. Up until about 6-8 months ago, when I would delete old email messages from the trash folder in the SeaMonkey email/news reader, they would disappear just about as fast as I could repeatedly hit the delete key. Then something happened that slowed things down, and it would take about half a second for each message to delete. I found this mildly annoying, but didn't pursue the possible cause or solution. In retrospect, I think it may have been something similar to what has now occurred. This past Monday, I installed the Microsoft critical updates for August, and also KB951748 from July. As usual, I waited until just before the next batch of patches was due for release, as this usually gives Microsoft time to correct glitches in the initial patch releases. After installing the August patches, the display and deletion of messages has slowed even more. It now takes 2-3 seconds for each message to open, display, and/or delete in the email/news reader. Moreover, I was having situations where SeaMonkey would lock up and I could not shut it down without re-booting. I would look at it in TaskManager, and there would be two instances of SeaMonkey running, both shown as not responding. Neither would respond to a kill process request from TaskManager. One activity that was causing this was attempting to login to my Comcast email account. The login page would open with my stored account ID and password, but when I clicked on login the program would freeze. I may have been doing this before the page was fully loaded, but not certain on this. I also experienced a lockup problem with Quicken 2006. I uninstalled the August Microsoft Critical Updates and also KB951748. This stopped both of the lockup problems, but it did not fix the slowdown problem with email messages. I also re-installed SeaMonkey v1.1.11, but this didn't help either. Has anyone else noticed these sorts of problems? Is there a known solution? Thanks! John -- Please reply in this newsgroup.     - Media Playback I run decent computer (see below). After installing SP3 while playing music on itunes, nothing new there, my music lags. And it seems as the play back slows down to about a tenth of the normal speed, and then starts playing normally. Any ideas why? I don't think it is a hardware issue becuase it only does it for media.     - Update failure on WIN2000 I am running Win2000 SP 4 on my home-built machine, MSI K7N2 Delta bios. Untill a couple weeks ago, I was getting updates OK. Right now, when I try to get updates, MS finds four critical. When I try to download and install, the machine hangs for maybe 10 minuted, then gives me a message that the updates filed.     - Can't get the Automatic Update service to be automatic in services I'm trying to update my Windows XP Pro after being infected by a virus, I've scanned the computer several times and I've found the virus, it's in a file called qoMcbcDs.dll, located in the C:\Windows\System32\ and I've tried everything to delete it (command, safe mode etc) , but with no success because the file is "in use" at all times. So, I tought, I have to try to update my Windows definitions. But when I tried it, the internet based update service told me I've got some services inactive, and gave me instructions to activate them. So I ran the services.mcs and tried to set the Automatic Update to Automatic (from Inactive), but when I hit apply the status went back to Inactive, sometimes it stayed Automatic and when I hit the Start button, I got a pop-up saying that the service Automatic Update couldn't be started on the Local Computer. Error 1058: Service can't be started. The reason is that the service is either blocked or there's no active devices to be associated with (translated from Swedish). The other two services, Background Intellient Transfer Service and Eventlog, are in order. It was when the BITS was stopped that the Aut.Upd. went inactive when applying, but when started, as it shall be, the Aut.Upd. went to automatic but when trying to start the service, I got the Error.
