Hi

I installed Windows XP Service Pack 3 yesterday, but I had to cancel the =
download/installation twice before what seemed to be a successful =
install. The cancellations were on account of its taking longer than I =
thought was usual....

Microsoft Update shows SP3 as installed after those two cancelled =
updates. No outstanding high priority updates are shown there. Likewise =
the Belarc Advisor tells me SP 3 is installed.=20

System Tools-->System Inforamtion also indicates that SP 3 is installed.

The entry in the Add/Remove programs at the Control Panel also shows: =
Windows XP Service Pack 3 to be installed.=20

However, there is a windows Media Player icon next to the SP3 entry in =
the Add/Remove list instead of the usual Windows Update type icons.

I notice a similar Windows Media Player icon for the Microsoft =
Compression Client Pack 1.0, probably installed ~2 years ago, but not =
sure if it was likewise downloaded via Windows Update.

So far I haven't experienced any issues with the SP3. However, I do find =
that Windows Media Player icon next to the service Pack 3 entry very =
baffling.

Can I assume all is well nonetheless?=20

Any explanations for that odd icon?

Does it indicate some corruption in the installation of SP3?

Thanks in advance:

-eli
