    - Windows Update Failure Windows update fails to install all of my current critical updates. I have tried doing custom and installing each one individually to see if there is a problem with a specific update but they all fail.     - Service Pack 3 Installation Problems After finally downloading the Service Pack 3 update, I now find myself unable to install it. While scanning my computer, and copying files prior to the actual installation, I always end up getting an error message saying that a specific file is not where it's supposed to be. It's always a different file. In addition, and I believe this is the main problem, along with the error message, I am always knocked out of having Administrator priviledges. My computer also acts strangely at this point, with me being unable to open certain apps. In addition, when I shut down, instead of seeing the normal blue shut down window with the icons, I get the old style gray drop down menu. This has also happened after I've shut down my anti-virus program. I am running XP Home edition, and am also the only user registered on this computer.     - Windows Update Failing (Code:80070490) I have tried numerous times to install this update...and it's one that says it's important...but it fails every time.     - Vista SP1 Update I continually told updates are available and it's always SP1. I install it (I think) following all admin prompts and accepting licenses. When viewing the progress it shows the preparing to install, shows it downloading (though it always shows 0% and then switches to "Installing update 1 of 1...WVSP1 (KB936330). Then I get the welcome screen and then the accept the license page. I accept it click next and then install. The windows update screen suddenly shows the update was successful. There is no shutting down of windows or taking an hour or more as the prompt screen warns. And then a few minutes later I am alerted that there are new updates available and the whole silly process starts again. I did call support but the guy wanted me to uninstall my anti-vrius, etc. and then be on the internet! But it seems to me like some applications dont have the right to overwrite, or work with existing folders. as the installer for .NET tells me in the middel of the installations (error code: 1713) that it can't create the catalog: C:\Programfiler\Internet Explorer\ (it already there, and "Programfiler" would be the same as "Program Files" on an english windows XP) Seems to me that it somehow have lost the rights to alter some files, or something in that direction.     - Slow response when opening files (Excel, Word, etc.) Am running XP Professional, SP3. Recently, when I go into Start, Documents, and double click to open Excel(both 2007 & 2003 files, Word 07 & 03, etc.) the files seem to just go into a non-responsive mode for extended time(20 secs up to 1 min) before opening.     - Windows Update files won't install On a W2K-Pro SP4 machine - logged in as administrator - when I try to make Windows Update work, Windows Update appears to scan my machine correctly and seems to download the necessary updates. All of the updates then fail to install.     - Windows Installer problem I'm having trouble with the Silverlight update referred to in another question. I tried to follow PA Bear's suggestion of deleting Silverlight and reinstalling it, but I couldn't because Windows installer was absent--at least that's the only option I could come up with (since I wasn't running in Safe Mode). I tried downloading it, but was told I didn't need it, since the one I had was later than the one I was trying to download. I still can't remove Silverlight, so I can't get away from that update problem--I just seem to be getting myself in deeper. Any ideas?     - How do I get automatic Windows updates if that feature is greyed out in Automatic Updates in System Properties? My office computer(XP, SP3) is of course part of a network. Through mid-June, it always received Windows updates, which I would then mostly approve for installation (like 98% of them). This week I noticed that the June 13 or whatever the date was update was the last series I'd had. So I went to Windows Update and downloaded (guessing) 20 updates in three different stages, with reboots necessary after each stage. I cannot reset my computer for automatic updates. Those settings are greyed out in the Automatic Updates tab of the system properties. And whether I use Windows Update or Microsoft Update, I don't have an option shown to select any flavor of automatic updates. I'm geek enough that I don't mind just checking for updates manually (a process made kind of easy by the fact that my home XP computers all get automatic updates that I manually install, reminding me to do it at work). But I'd love to know how to restore the auotmatic update download/reminder system I had previously. http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/updaterestore.reg and other references suggest some registry tweaks to try to alleviate this, but none have worked.     - Removing persisted download I am running WinXP Pro SP3. I have Automatic update option of notify before download or install. I selected a single offered update (IE7) for download. It has been three days and Automatic update has attempted to download the update over 50 times. In windowsupdate.log I found no errors at all but instead each attempt ends with "PerUpdate regulated can NOT download." which I understand to mean that the servers are too busy. OK, I am tired of waiting (who knows how long until download actually happens). I went to the Internet Explorer site and downloaded the IE7 update myself. I would now like to install it but I want to clear out Automatic update so that I don't get another copy of the IE7 file on my computer. How do I go about purging a Windows update persisted event?     - MsWorks Update error U all Know what it is i have a windows update regarding microsoft works 8 and i get an error because i dont have the c.d. for it.It came preinstalled .i came aross a download from microsoft to download and install it. i did download the eng.usa cab one and i followed instructions i put it on my desktop when i click on it i can see installer and then the allow and cancel screen but after i allow it nothing happens. Same symptoms: Update progress window started, and suddenly an audible "click", and the power was dumped. Computer restarted automatically, and ran a disk check for inconsistencies in the file system. Then Windows popped up a notice that it wanted to report a serious system failure to Microsoft. And the update was still flagged as needing to be installed. While working on some files on my newly installed NAS ("Network Attached Storage") drive, I noticed a slew of temp folders which should not have been there. Turns out that they were written by Windows Update! This NAS was added by the system disk manager to the "Hard Disk Drives" group in the Windows Explorer. The assigned logical volume was the first unused drive letter after some USB card reader slots. Apparently, Windows Update writes temporary files to the last logical HDD volume. Alas, the NAS logical volume depends on a software manager which doesn't load immediately after boot; the consequence is a failure of the update to find its files after a restart. For the HP Pavilion 6745C, I will swap logical volumes, putting the Temp volume as the last in the list. I can stop the NAS by dismounting it, then use the Windows XP Disk Manager to alter the drive letters and paths. Similar for the HP Pavilion a1440n. For the HP Pavilion m7590n, things proved a little stickier; I have the Tversity media server running, and while it was accessing the NAS I couldn't detach it. I had to temporarily disable the startup group, using 'msconfig', to keep the mediaserver from launching, then reorder the drive letters. It fails to install the "Update for Microsoft Works 8" (KB955428), with the error code 8024002D after prompting to manually enter a path to a "WORKS8.MSI" file (the default path in the field is not sufficient, and I can't find this WORKS8.MSI anywhere in Works' folder in Program Files). Every time i try to update vist home pre/32bit. 2gb ram 12o hard OS....
i get the error code 80070002....
witch i try all the ways peps say to try but with no luck....
i also do it manualy n still no luck....
Ok am newbie to comps about 8months now.
But am not stupid n how to fix my own stuff....
But this as got me so any help would be great n i also thank anybody in
advance...
