I cannot download Vista updates. I keep getting an error code KB947562.
Four days ago my problem was that I couldn't download Vista updates and was
getting another error code. After spending countless hours on the phone with
Microsoft, and having to purchase Vista (because of corrupt files), I now
find myself back in the same position-except this time just about everything
on my computer needs to be rebuilt. I hope I don't have to rebuild what
limited things I have on my system again.

KB947562 is not an error code, it points to an update for Vista
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947562).

Sorry, it a fit of utter frustration I inadvertently typed the wrong number,
of which I'm still receiving. The error code I'm receiving is 8024200D.

Are you currently running Vista or Vista SP1?

Error Code 0x8024200D SUS_E_UH_NEEDANOTHERDOWNLOAD
The installer requires more data to be downloaded

Translation: Whatever you're trying to install, your machine needs some
other updates to be installed first.

I've just installed Vista SP1. I'm experiencing numerous probems.

Was SP1 offered via Windows Update or did you choose to download/install it
manually?

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed? What
anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall
(if any)? Were any of these applications running in the background when you
attempted to install/installed Vista SP1?

After repeated attempts for 6 weeks I could not get Windows Update to
download SP1 for me. I wrote this board which suggested I contact MS. MS
reviewed my system through Live Chat and determined I had corrupt files
suggesting I find someone with a Vista SP1 disc. I don't have the disc as
Vista came loaded on my HP computer, and I was informed the particular files
I needed were not loaded on the machine. I purchased Vista SP1 because I
don't know of anyone who has a disc. MS manually loaded the Vista SP1 for
me. I assume that MS correctly installed the system. I have McAfee
Security. I will add that the service technicians have been wonderful and
spent a lot of time on my problem. It just that my problems apparently are
not resolved.

I have put in four days of staying up until after midnight trying to fix
this thing and getting very little sleep; not to mentioned that I have spent
my entire day trying to resolve a number of conflicts. Now it looks as
though I'm back to receiving error codes that says I cannot download certain
files with Windows Update-the very first place that I started from. What's
worst is that Microsoft Office, while working on my computer, will not allow
me to download material from the website as it feels it isn't a validated
copy and some programs that I had working under the original Vista don't seem
to be working under the Vista SP1. Forgive me but I'm exceptionally crabby
at the moment.

Now I'm venting. :O)

Thanks. I have sent a message to the supervisor of the people who originally
worked on my machine. If I don't hear back from them soon, I'll put in
another ticket. Since I had to reload my system, all my preferences are
messed up. I was hoping someone would say, "Oh, error code 8024200D means
you have to click box A on Internet Explorer." Alas, these things are never
that obvious.
