When I turned on my computer today, it said there's an update waiting for me
to upload; and it will check if my computer needed an update for Win XP Svc
Pack 3. After I clicked on a button, it did some checking, and then said
"Update KB..... is already uploaded, but if I click it, it will finish
installing". I though uploaded and installed means the same; what's the
difference? I have my computer set for automatic updates so why does it ask
if I need to install an update?
I'm confuse, please help. Thans.

SP3 won't auto install.

See: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936929

If your computer qualifies, Windows XP SP3 will be one of the updates that are
automatically selected. Click Install
Review and accept the End User License Agreement (EULA).
Windows XP SP3 will be downloaded to your computer, and the Windows XP Service Pack 3
Setup Wizard will help you install it.

The message did not include the word "upload."

The message may have been similar to "Updates have been downloaded and are
ready to be installed."

If the update in question was WinXP SP3 (which was releaed to Windows Update
on 10 July) and you approve the installation, you would then see
(eventually) another prompt presenting an EULA (End User License Agreement)
for SP3. After approving the EULA, it could take 2 or more hours for the
installation to complete.
