Yesterday I had to reinstall Windows XP. I updated it via SP3. However,
Windows subsequently discovered a number of additional updates. I have tried
to install the following updates three times without success.

Realtek AC'97 Audio

Microsoft Windows XP

Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1
Windows Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP

There was no error code.

Can someone help me with this?

Here is more information.

After a format and reinstallation of XP, I reinstalled my printer software
just to avoid a lot of nagging. There was no problem. Of course, my optical
drive was working correctly. Next I removed bundled apps that I don't need.
Then I reinstalled and updated my security software.

Finally, I went to Microsoft Update for updates. What I got was SP3. I let
it be downloaded and installed. It seemed to be OK. Windows subsequently
found additional updates which I had installed. It was after the last of the
additional update installations that I got the error message noted in my
first post.

However, when I tried to install additional software, I found that XP failed
to recognize my installation CD: hence, no installation. I tried two more
times with the same outcome.

The more I think about this mess the more I wonder If SP3 or a subsequent
update caused the problems. Is this plausable?

Is there any way of undoing an update(s), or might I have to reinstall XP
again?
