I am having trouble installing SP3 on my computer (WindowsXP Professional
SP2). The installation runs smoothly until the "Performing cleanup" step,
after that it ends with "An error in updating your system has occurred." The
error code is: 0x8007F070. I was installing with no antivirus/firewall/any
other programs running. The funny thing is that in the Add Remove programs
option in Control Panel it is listed as installed and can be uninstalled.
Any ideas?

Hello Vicious,

Have you tried to uninstall SP3 in Safe Mode?

Good luck

<IMHO>
Temporarily disable all real-time protections afforded by your anti-virus
application, any anti-spyware applications, and any third-party firewall
prior to installing SP3. If you disable a third-party firewall, make sure
you then enable the Windows Firewall: The machine should not be connected to
the internet without an active firewall.

NB ZA Free users: Uninstall ZA Free via Add/Remove Programs and enable the
Windows Firewall before installing SP3.

After installing SP3 /and rebooting twice/, check to make sure your
real-time protections have been re-enabled; If you disabled a third-party
firewall, remember to re-enable it and disable the Windows Firewall.
</IMHO>

I already wrote in my original post that SP3 can be uninstalled. I don't need
to go to safe mode to uninstall it i can do it normally in Windows through
add/remove programs. Today however, I did uninstall it in safe mode (I
uninstalled it twice before normally).
The problem is that it does not install. That's the primary problem. It is
funny though how it can be removed through add/remove programs since the
installation does not complete and ends with an error. I even tried the
selective startup option with all the "suspicious" programs disabled at
startup, so that the antivirus / firewall / anti-spyware / registry programs
didn't even start at startup nor did any of the other "suspicious" programs.
The problem is still there and I cannot install SP3.

I really hope this error gets cleared up since I cannot get any useful
information on any other forums. It almost looks like I'm the only one with
this problem.
Any new ideas, please?
