    - Sucessful and effortlessVista SP1 download/install--finally I use Vista Business (32-bit) and had been waiting since April for WAU to notify me SP1 was available. Given the number of problems people have reported with manual download/install, I wanted to wait for WAU. All Important and Critical Updates were current and no driver/hardware conflicts. Nothing. Finally received notice about "Optional" update (IDT - Audio - IDT High Definition Audio CODEC). After installing I checked WAU and there was SP1. Download/installation required approximately an hour but went very smoothly. No problems with sound, mouse, keyboard, browser (Firefox) or anything!! If anyone else has been waiting for SP1, I strongly suggest you check out this "Optional" update: IDT - Audio - IDT High Definition Audio CODEC. Might solve your problem.     - Not able to hide unwanted updates I am annoyed by some updates I choose not to display and there isn't the "normal" box to check for the option of hiding these updates. Anyone else finding that on some updates, they've taken away the option to hiding them? It's just frustrating to have the same unwanted updates show up all the time.     - "IDT - Audio - IDT High Definition Audio CODEC" HELP! Hi Newbie Here: OK, I have had the same problem that I have read about in here and many other places too. Some have answers, but they are not to my operating system nor brand of Laptop. I bought a Dell XPS M2010 last month and after windows made the update: "IDT - Audio - IDT High Definition Audio CODEC" on my laptop, and now I have NO sound (but I guess I'm not alone). I tried rolling back the driver in the device manager, no luck. I tried booting my laptop to the last known good configuration, no luck. I've tried inserting a couple of CDs that came with my PC, but once they were open, I didn't understand what was what so I didn't mess with a thing. Has Any body come up with a solution fro an XPS Dell that is easy for a novice to fix? PS I HAVE learned from reading these posts to NEVER update drivers from Windows updates, thanks for teaching me that (it's a hard lesson to learn). Thanks in advanced!     - Error 0x80092026 One of my XP SP2 Clients suddenly stopped updating via WSUS and cannot manually update via windows update either - the page fails with the above error code. There are no software restriction policies in any GPO's for the whole domain. There are no "Safer" reg entries in the following location HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\ SystemCertificates\TrustedPublisher I renamed the WUWEB.dll to something else and even tried stopping the automatic updates service and deleting everything in the C:\Windows\software distribution folder and restarting the service.     - Start-->Run entries leading to WU log files Hi there: There were two log files in .txt format which I was able to access via Start-->Run 1) windowsupdate.log 2) Another log file specifically giving installation details for SP3...(I think it had svpack or ssomething like that in the entry name). I accidentally deleted all the Start-->Run entries. And I cant recall how those two logs were accessed via run. Would much appreciate if you can tell me how to enter those.     - XP SP3 font problems with Arial Black rendering in HTML The rendering of the font Arial Black in HTML docs became errant after installing SP3. It renders always in Italic, unless you specify a font-weight over 800 (!!) in a stylesheet. I have created a very simple webpage (with an inline stylesheet) to show the problem: it can be found on http://home.versatel.nl/lupercus/ This problem shows in IE7 and all programs that use the HTML rendering based on IE7, like my RSS-reader Greatnews. I have no idea how Firefox etc render the HTML pages, with SP3 installed. The font Arial Black shows correctly in non-HTML-based programs, like MS Word. Lupercus.     - Keyboard problems (ZBoard) My zboard was working fine until I downloaded (from windows update): Ideazon - Other Hardware - Ideazon Zboard MM USB Human Interface Device and Ideazon - Other Hardware - Ideazon Zboard USB Human Interface Device Now my computer does not reconize the keyboard and when I try to refresh the keyboard, for some reason, the calculator opens.     - Vista 64 - Sp1 windows update Hi, Everything I read said to wait until the automatic Windows Update says SP1 is ready and to backup before installing. Well last Wednesday, my windows update finely listed it in my Windows update. But I wasn't ready. I had not done my backups yet and was over busy with work and could not afford to have down time. Yesterday I backed up an image and cleaned up stuff. This morning I came in to have Windows Update to install the SP1. My windows update doesn't list it, It is gone. I had Windows Update check for updates again to get it back. Still nothing. How do I get Windows Update to list SP1 update again and why did it disappear from my list?     - SP3 borks Plextor DVD drive My son has a fairly new system that includes a Plextor PX-755SA DVD drive on a Win XP Home system. I'm more than happy with xp home and seen no need to install Vista at the time of the build. It worked great until he downloaded and installed SP3. It went from burning dvd's at 12-16X to .7-1. After spending half the night downloading firmware, software, and driver updates from plextor, all without any good results, i instructed him to do a system restore. He notified me today that the drive is back to it's previous performance level. I dont know if MS released this patch in hopes of causing XP users to switch to Vista, but i wouldn't be suprised. I also installed SP3 on my XP Pro system, but i haven't had a chance to check and see if my system is suffering any ill affects from the update as yet. Thank god for current backups.     - Getting notified for download but not to install-AutoUpdate-non-ad I am trying to allow non-admin users access to receive windows update via automatic updates without much success. I have a SUS server that I am using for our LAN users but do not want to use it for remote employees due to bandwidth issues. I configured a group policy for the remote employees with notify to download and notify to install and allow non-administrators to receive update notifications They are getting notified to download but they are never notifed to install. The event viewer shows the file is ready to install but states I need to log in as an admin. I was thinking of configuring the automatic updates to auto download and schedule install but there are some updates I do not want them to install until it is tested.     - The icon disappears before I can download updates Hi All of a sudden after installing the AVG8 Free edition - the icon for my updates appears then it disappears again before I can update. I have my automatic updates set at "notify me but don't automatically download". I have always been able to download without any trouble but now as I mentioned the icon vanishes.     - Unable to boot up-Windows XP I tried to boot up my computer this morning and I received a blue screen telling me that a problem has been detected and and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to my computer. I received the following technical information: Stop: 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0x805c575B, 0xF88AE1E8, xF88ADEE4) I tried rebooting and following the instructions in the safe mode, but it would not even let me in the safe mode, it won't let me do anything.     - XP SP3 Downloading and Installing Probs....Help Me Please!! I have tried numerous times to update Service Pack 3 for Windows XP Home Edition but everytime I start the download and accept the license agreement, it just stays on "preparing to download." I uninstalled my previous anti-virus program because I have been having problems with installing updates from Microsoft and downloaded Windows Live OneCare last night, thinking it may solve my problem. This morning before I left for work around 4:30am EST, I attempted to try downloading it again because Windows Live OneCare prompted me to do so and I am still at work but have called home to ask my sister if it downloaded and IT IS STILL ON THE SAME PAGE!!! What am I doing wrong?! I have had NO PROBLEM downloading any other updates! In fact, my automatic updates went ahead and installed the other updates for me but it won't installl SP3.     - Can't Install SP 3; Can't Restore SP 2 Either I'd rather have a virus than have to deal with Windows updates. I have XP Window Media Center OS. When I tried to install SP 3 it went all the way to the end and just failed without any excuse or error message. It just failed. I tried all the suggestions on note 950718, and they all failed. Went thru the whole process about 6 times with the same result. After failure my network access was gone. It took a day to restore it. I tried to reinstall SP 2, but that didn't work. Window Media Center still doesn't work. When I try to start it I get an ehshell.exe error message to the effect that the file is only partially signed or corrupted. I appear to be stuck half way between SP 2 and 3. My Dell XPS M140 did not come with any Windows installation disks, so I can't reinstall. I just want to get back they way I was before SP 3 screwed my computer up. I have no plans to ever try to intall SP 3 on this computer again-- I'd rather hava a virus attack.     - Can't reboot in safe mode, keyboard arrows won't work I have a user that installed SP3 on her home computer, but it did not go well.. After the installation and first reboot, a blue screen was briefly displayed. There was a "click" and the PC rebooted again. Then began an endless reboot cycle. She could never manage to read the message on the blue screen, but it seemed to begin with "If this is your first time running Windows..." She was able to press F8 and the Safe Mode selection screen was displayed, but she could not move the cursor to highlight "Safe Mode"--it stayed at "normal" Windows. She tried this several times. Anyone have any suggestions with this? Just a note...I haven't seen any major problems with any of our office computers that have been updated. They are all less than 3 years old. Today, 05/12/08, went to check for updates and recieved this message; Do you want to run and install Windows Update signed on 8/25/03. Figured this must be newer version so clicked yes. Got this message; You must be logged on as an administrator or as a member of Adminstrator Group to run this procedure. If your computer is connected to a network, network policy may also prevent you from completing this procedure. Tried several times. Even went in through main MS site. Same thing happens. Any ideas?     - Net Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 I keep received a critical upgrade message for Net Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1. However, every time I try to download and install it I received the following message. "SLC tmp has encountered a problem and needs to close. We're sorry for the inconvenience." Will appreciate any help anyone can give to resolve the problem. Is is possible to unstall Net Framework 1 and 2 entirely and reinstall them. When attempting to install, I receive the Error Code 80070570. I have found one other thread out on the Internet with the same problem, but no solution. Has anyone found a solution to this problem?     - Cannot install MS Office Enterprise 2007 Windows Updates My employer is a member of the Microsoft Home Use Program. I recently took advantage of this program and ordered Office Enterprise 2007 which I installed and enabled on my laptop. I then downloaded and installed XP SP3 which caused a problem - a download virus was detected and removed -laptop was working ok. Yesterday, my Windows Update listed several updates (including sp1) related to Office Enterprise 2007. I selected express installation - all selected updates were NOT installed. I attempted the installation several times with the same results. Even though Trend Micro PC-cillin, Spybot and Windows Firewall were disabled, I still could not install the updates.     - SP3 before i got the sp3 had no issues what so ever and then they said oh its a critical update so i did get the update loaded the SP3 rebooted and guess what happen IT WENT TO A BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH... so started up in safe mode then did a system restore and went back to sp2 after that everthing went back to normal. contacted them and all they did was trying to pass the buck NEXT TIME IM BUYING A APPLE, MAC !!!!!! Today my invite to install Sp3 arrived so with trepidation I went to the
update center to download.
There were three other updates-the usual Ms anti malicious file stuff and
the MSOffice 2007 (which I don't have installed but something triggers that
update) I installed those first and went back to Sp3.
Turned off Spybot Tea Timer and just as the download was ready to install
turned off the Antivirus.
It wasn't a big download and it proceeded smoothly although there is a
period of time when it appears nothing is happening but my router lights
were flashing so I relaxed.
Reboot was normal and all appears to be working normally.

I'm appreciative for the advice and instructions posted in this newsgroup
regarding this update.I was able to be well prepared including 'getting
round to' learning the Image the system process and made the boot CD <grin>
None of this was needed.
