PA Bear,

I've seen many of your posts, and trust you. OK, here's the real dumb
question (that many people wonder about):

My XP SP-2 systems work great -- NO problems. From what I've read, SP-3 has
several enterprise security updates and other seemingly minor ones. The
question: do you REALLY feel SP-3 is necessary on a home system? IOW, if it
ain't broke, don't fix it. Vista SP-1 has some real bug fixes, etc., but
SP-3 for XP really seems minimal.

Your thoughts please. Thanks.

EW

Not yet. But starting in about two years, all security updates will require
SP3, so at that point it will be essential.

won't be offered any more critical updates.

Got it. Thank you to those who replied. The update seems to have no

A good point - it should probably be installed well before this date. However,
I wouldn't recommend installing it right now, wait a few more weeks and hope
that application vendors (and Windows Update) catch up.
