in vista and you can use this for xp too I had almost givine up trying to
get this to install for 1.0 sp1 maybe it could work for you
For 3mths I have been at my wits end trying to get net framework 1.1 sp1
with the updates on my vista home premium computer.
I finally found the solution and i want to pass it on to you
I tried uninstalling net framework 1.1 and it would not uninstall at all
So I gave up
Now with sp1 coming everything has to be up to date in WU or it will not
even show you the update. (it is still not showing me it but i am betting
one of my drivers need updating first and i will need to research that as i
get some time to see which one it is)
But getting back
I found this site

and installed the cleanup tool to remove 1.1
You just need to be careful with the tool because it gives you options to
remove 2.0 also so make sure you click the right one.
Then I was told to download Microsoft .NET Framework Version 1.1
Redistributable Package

and also download Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1

Once the cleanup tool ran, I rebooted the computer and installed the
Redistributable package first
After a reboot I installed Net framework 1.1 sp1 and it required another
reboot
then I went back to windows update and did the update and NOW the security
updates for netframework 1.1 worked!
This tool works on xp and vista and you need to do it this way for both OS's
try the tool and see if it works for you
