Microsoft controls even re-connecting my home printer to my home dell. The
922 printer came with the computer and for a while, I used my office computer
for any printing. I moved, the printer has not been connected to the pc for
some time. NOw I have some printing I want to do at home, hooked up the
printer to the port, to the electricity, retarted the computer. Microsoft
indicated new hardware, but THEY WON'T LET ME DO THIS WITHOUT THE ORIGINAL
CD. GOODNESS SAKES, THAT CD COULD BE IN A BOX OR AT THE LAST RESIDENCE I
HAD. Is there any other way to get access to MY printer/scanner on MY PC!!@!

Printer drivers are provided by the manufacturer not Microsoft. Try this
link for instruction on how to download Dell Printer Drivers:
http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dsn/document?c=us&docid=3A943AE039242E89E040A68F5B2854C9&l=en&s=gen#2

If that link does not work for you start with Dell Support and go to Printer
and Monitor support here:
http://support.dell.com/support/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen

I don't need drivers. That was not my need. Anyway, it's solved.

Thanks

How does this relate to Windows Update?

Because I my printer had not been connected to my xp microsoft operating
system on my dell computer, when i plugged it up, I had to go through Windows
live id to get help to update software, etc. You can't understand the
connection/relationship? I only came here so that I could get
help...answers. I was trying everywhere to understand. Isn't this the place
for discussion, questions, etc., when you have a microsoft operating system
and you are bound by it's protocol?

Did you try reinstalling the printer?

Going to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com does not require logging in with
a Live ID.

In any event, your problem is not related to Window Update or its
functionality. Try posting to microsoft.public.windowsxp.general or
microsoft.public.windowsxp.print_fax newsgroups instead.

Tip: Do not install any driver updates offered by Windows Update. Get them
from the manufacturer's website instead.
