Did you mean Automatic Update service? LiveUpdate belongs to a Norton
application: What Norton application might be installed? If none, was one
every installed (e.g., preinstalled on a new machine when you bought it)?
Otherwise...
Always state your full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3; Vista SP1) when
posting to this newsgroup, please.
Had you (recently) reinstalled WinXP?
Try Resolution Method 2 in
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144.
If no joy, download/run Eddie Bowers' [MSFT] AURESET tool (be patient &
allow the tool to run; may take 20 minutes or more):
http://www.codeplex.com/aureset/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=17263.
If still no joy, What anti-virus application or security suite is installed?
What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party
firewall (if any)?
