    - Forcing Immediate Download and Installation From WSUS 3.0? Greetings. I'd think this would be a FAQ, but I can't find a solution anywhere. I need to update a group of Windows 2000 and 2003 servers which lack Internet connectivity. One idea I've had is to configure a complete WSUS server on a laptop, connect the laptop one-by-one to the servers using a network crossover cable, and then initiate an update from the server to the WSUS laptop. The problem is, I need to be able to trigger a scan/download/install cycle on each server right then, without waiting for the Windows Update client to come around on schedule and do the installation. I know "wuauclt /detectnow" forces a detection, but from what I can determine, it detects and then schedules the actual installation for the next cycle; I need the detection *and* installation to take place immediately.     - Paying for Microsoft -- Probably this seems "daft" but I have always paid for Windows Hotmail etc. etc. and to this day I do not know what this is for. 14.99 per year.     - problems with update with win XP SP3 I tried to download SP 3 as I was told by the microsoft update site. Initially I got Error Code: 0x8007058D . I did some searching on this site, found that people had similar error when installing SP 2 ( I am installing SP3. SP2 had come with the windows XP CD when bought by me) So I shut off my Norton antivirus, PC tools antispyware, my zone alarm. This time my update went smoothly. But now whenever I restart my computer I get the following 2 eror messages. 1. The procedute entry point "apsGetInterfaceCount " could not be located in the dynamic link library wlanapi.dll. 2. The procedure entry point "apsIntialize" could not be located in the dynamic link library wlanapi.dll. When I click OK these message boxes disappear. My windows loads properly. That is not a problem, But these message boxes are irritating. Also it took me over 5 hrs to load the SP3. Don't tell me that I need to uninstall SP3, and reload it again.     - SP3 crash Apparently, this is a known issue, but the only way I could boot was by doing a Recovery. Unfortunately, this lost any important info & I was lseft with a brand new computer having to reinstall everything.     - Windows wants to install update on shutdown The last two times I have shut down my computer I have gotten the message to "click to turn off and install important updates and turn off your computer." I have opted to shut down without installing as I am not aware of any updates being downloaded, other than Windows Defender updates, which installed already.     - May 6, 2008 Update causes computers to crash Hi I was wondering if anyone else had this problem: On May 6 windows pushed an update to vista to my computer and my daughterâ??s.     - "Deny" an update I have a group setup that all my desktop workstations are a member of in WSUS 3. I have certain updates that I approve for all workstations and approve for the "all workstations" group. Recently a person advised me that he has a workstation that is having a problem with one specific update KB945432 on one specific machine. When he uninstalls the update his problem goes away. Automatic updates reinstalls the update on the proper schedule and then his problem comes back. My question is....is there anyway of setting up someting to "deny" an update to a group or specific machine that will over-ride the approval in the "all workstations" group.     - Vista SP1: Windows Process Activation Service fails After installing Vista SP1 on 64 bit Vista Enterprise the World Wide Web Publishing service failed to start because a required service (the Windows Process Activation Service) could not be started. When I attempted to start that service I received the error: "Error 1168: Element not found". Uninstalling and reinstalling the WPAS service did not fix the error.     - My CPU gets used up by a program When ever I reboot my computer a program named ISUSP.exe causes a program called agent.exe to use up all the CPU memory and bogs down the normal operation to a halt. By using the utility manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL) I shut ISUSP.exe off and can resume use. Is there a solution to this problem? Some updates were not installed I have a Dell Dimension 4400 that I reformatted the hard drive, and installed Windows XP Pro. I attempted to install all of the latest critical security updates.     - Successfull Sp3 today-thanks MVPs Today my invite to install Sp3 arrived so with trepidation I went to the update center to download. There were three other updates-the usual Ms anti malicious file stuff and the MSOffice 2007 (which I don't have installed but something triggers that update) I installed those first and went back to Sp3. Turned off Spybot Tea Timer and just as the download was ready to install turned off the Antivirus. It wasn't a big download and it proceeded smoothly although there is a period of time when it appears nothing is happening but my router lights were flashing so I relaxed. Reboot was normal and all appears to be working normally. I'm appreciative for the advice and instructions posted in this newsgroup regarding this update.I was able to be well prepared including 'getting round to' learning the Image the system process and made the boot CD <grin> None of this was needed.     - Sucessful and effortlessVista SP1 download/install--finally I use Vista Business (32-bit) and had been waiting since April for WAU to notify me SP1 was available. Given the number of problems people have reported with manual download/install, I wanted to wait for WAU. All Important and Critical Updates were current and no driver/hardware conflicts. Nothing. Finally received notice about "Optional" update (IDT - Audio - IDT High Definition Audio CODEC). After installing I checked WAU and there was SP1. Download/installation required approximately an hour but went very smoothly. No problems with sound, mouse, keyboard, browser (Firefox) or anything!! If anyone else has been waiting for SP1, I strongly suggest you check out this "Optional" update: IDT - Audio - IDT High Definition Audio CODEC. Might solve your problem. Some have answers, but they are not to my operating system nor brand of Laptop. I bought a Dell XPS M2010 last month and after windows made the update: "IDT - Audio - IDT High Definition Audio CODEC" on my laptop, and now I have NO sound (but I guess I'm not alone).     - Error 0x80092026 One of my XP SP2 Clients suddenly stopped updating via WSUS and cannot manually update via windows update either - the page fails with the above error code. There are no software restriction policies in any GPO's for the whole domain. There are no "Safer" reg entries in the following location HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\ SystemCertificates\TrustedPublisher I renamed the WUWEB.dll to something else and even tried stopping the automatic updates service and deleting everything in the C:\Windows\software distribution folder and restarting the service.     - Start-->Run entries leading to WU log files Hi there: There were two log files in .txt format which I was able to access via Start-->Run 1) windowsupdate.log 2) Another log file specifically giving installation details for SP3...(I think it had svpack or ssomething like that in the entry name).     - XP SP3 font problems with Arial Black rendering in HTML The rendering of the font Arial Black in HTML docs became errant after installing SP3. It renders always in Italic, unless you specify a font-weight over 800 (!!) in a stylesheet. If I opt to install these via Custom Install , would they: 1) Simply install over the ones already there?     - Windows XP SP3 I've tried to install SP3 three times and after install it says Windows did not start up correctly, tries to reboot and then asks how I want to start Windows. I downloaded SP3, but run into problems when installing. I did successfully
install on my laptop (Windows Professional) but the problems occur on my
desktop (Home version). Halfway down the installation process I get various
application errors (UpdDlg.exe, rundll32.exe, MyUrsSrv4.7.0.566 to name
three, all with the naration:"instruction at 0x5a00d0e0 referenced memory at
0xe5e66544. memory could not be read".
I hope someone could tell me how to overcome this. Thanks Herman
