 - Deleting Update files and folder The following folder has appeared in my root directory: e7775b74f0187ae60d2f0cd51d1b19e1 and inside that is a folder called Update containing files:eula.txt, update.exe, update.inf, update.ver, updspapi.dll, wudf01005.cat and wudfcustom.dll. I have tried every means to delete these files and folder, including Safe Mode with Command Line but nothing works. How do I get rid of them?  - Cannot install KB943985 v2 - Error 1327 Cannot install this patch for Excel 2003 either through Microsoft Update or by downloading the installation file and installing manually. When installing manually, I get Error 1327 invalid drive F:\. There was an F:\ hard drive partition in this box and My Documents was located on it, but it has been removed and drive F:\ is now an optical drive.  - Office 2007 Programs Restart After Closing After Vista SP1 Install I installed Vista SP1 on two laptops (work and home). Both laptops have MS Office 2007. After I installed SP1, every time I close any Office program it tells me "Microsoft Office XXX has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you is a solution is available." You then have to click the "Close program" button." Then it restarts the program and I have to close it again manually.  - Error msg: 80073712 during update. Cannot delete pending file I've been reading the posted threads regarding this issue. As suggested in a thread on 2-9 by Alicia, I located the pending .xml file but could not delete it. I tried right clicking on it and went into properties, then security in order to allow full control, but it would not allow me to complete that task. Deleting the file manually would not work either. I then went to the microsoft website as suggested by TaurArian and tried to update windows update, but that also failed, it just opened windows update on my system. Any help would be appreciated.  - error message 80073712 during windows update I have tried to update KB942763 which is about the new daylight saving rule for many times but it shows an error message 80073712. I can't find the file pending.xml under C:\Windows\winsxs\ even I have shown all hidden files and operating files. Besides, I have installed the new version of Windows Update Agent as well. However I still cannot install the update. This update is very important as the computer will automatically cancel the daylight saving 1 week earlier than the new date, which would lead to a serious time problem.  - Fixing Windows Update so WE and MAIL work I recently used windows update. Last update was in October. Every time I use update something changes in my computer that prevents me from connecting to the internet or receive / send email. This last update there were 37 files. How do I figure out which one is blocking what was a good connection before the update? On a broader note, why does microsoft put out updates that dont work with their own programs?  - SP1-How did it go for you? Just a couple of personal comments on Vista SP1. The Upgrade took about 1-1/2 hours, but installed without a hitch. The first obvious change was performance on several levels. One of the things that has always bothered me about Vista is the "wake" time for a couple of reasons. When waking the computer, sometimes it could take up to a minute for the Welcome screen to appear in order to log on. The second issue was that wireless network service would have to re-connect and it took another 30 seconds. Both of these issues were addressed with SP1, at least in my case. Now we're back to about a 6 second time from "wake" to "work". This was a major improvement. The other performance improvement was in the file copy speed (network to local). What a difference. I use Microsoft Access constantly and there is no question in my mind, that performance seems to have improved here when accessing tables on a network drive. Overall performance seems to be better for me as well. Although most of my work seems to be LAN related and this improvement was expected. I guess that time will tell what else SP1 will bring, but so far, it looks great. I have installed many Service Packs and updates for most OS products, but this one by far has yielded the most noticable improvements. Hats off to the development team for this Service Pack. I get the updates are ready to be downloaded in my system tray. When I go to install it it fails every time I try.  - Vista SP1 Pack Hi I downloaded and installed the Vista SP1 Pack. However after a few reboots the system started checking the files (xxxx of 72xxx files) and keeps stopping at a file witht he generic name of sbs_corexxxx.dll (number is around 5400). Anyone able to give me insight on what is happening? i had to use my Vista installer cd to to repair my install twice before i got my previous settings back.. otherwise i would have had to reinstall vista from the cd and would have lost all my documents =( Im just alittle apprehensive now to try the SP1 update again.  - Need Help With IPs to Authorize Windows Update I'm having some problems with firewall authorizations for Windows Update access in a DMZ. In general, I have had good luck getting access to Windows Update when you authorize passage of HTTP, HTTPS, and FTP to these networks: 131.107.0.0 / 16 207.46.0.0 / 16 64.4.0.0 / 18 65.52.0.0 / 14 In addition, I normally authorize these URLs for both http: and https: *.microsoft.com windowsupdate.microsoft.com *.windowsupdate.microsoft.com download.windowsupdate.com The problem I am having is that occasionally the DNS name "download.windowsupdate.com" resolves to some IPs on a huge network from the Limelight load balancing farm. When the client behind the firewall resolves that DNS to an IP, it then connects to the IP and the IP does NOT reverse back to the DNS name download.windowsupdate.com. Instead it resolves to some arbitrary name at the Limelight Network. So the firewall has no way of knowing that the connection is authorized. Further complicating all of this, download.windowsupdate.com does not always resolve to the Limelight load balancers. Microsoft appears to have these IPs pointing to load balancers all over the world. Some of the IPs I saw the download.windowsupdate.com domain name resolve to: 208.111.148.50 8.12.217.124 192.78.223.126 209.84.2.124 etc Microsoft provides a set of DNS names to use with the ISA firewall, and naturally that doesn't work for the IPs above because they don't reverse to Microsoft domain names. No way do I want to authorize the entire Limelight load balancing network into my DMZ. There are a huge number of IPs, and those are probably associated with many hundreds of different organizations. When I do a whois on the IPs Microsoft is using, nothing in the huge range of IPs returned suggests which subset of the range is reserved for Microsoft use. It would be really really nice for those of us who actually think about security if Microsoft would publish openly the range of IPs it is using for Windows Update.  - Display Driver keeps crashing I play this game called silkroad online. This is my 3rd different time playing it and i have enver had a problem in the past, i have taken a few months worth of a break inbetween each play time. Now when i play sometimes i randomly get a message saying my display driver is not responding and i have to reboot the whole system.  - All MI updates fail to install I upgraded to XP. I registered. I was able to download one update which I think makes it possible for me to update. After I restarted my machine, I ran the MS updates. It found many. When I click install, every download fails to install. I even chose a couple by themselves to install under the custom install and those failed as well. Is there a particular order?  - unable to use microsoft automatic update While trying to run auto update I keep getting Error number: 0x80072EE7, I did as the self help suggested and checked the host file and there was no mention of microsoft in there. I've tried various other repairs including even though I'm not on a LAN the auto LAN setting, installing sp3, running sfc.exe /runnow, cleanning out the software distribution file.  - SP1 not available at Microsoft Update I'm running Vista Home Premium, up-to-date, with no hidden updates; I've got scads of room on my drive; and I'm in Canada ...if that matters. I have read that Microsoft will be pushing out SP1 in April, but that if one wished to get it earlier you could go to Microsoft Update. I've tried this, but SP1 is not listed and my Windows is shown to be up-to- date. I've gone through all the reasons why SP1 might not be listed (installed already; problem drivers; beta install of SP1; etc) but none of those conditions seem to apply. So... why can't I get SP1? So...you did a memory upgrade and suddenly a new update (KB929777)
appears. You try too install it...again and again..it fails with ERROR CODE
8000FFFF. Here is the fix....put away the screwdriver and forget about taking
out the modules.
Go to Control Panel(classic view), Windows Update, Review Update
History,click on installed updates(blue text at the top), Find (KB929777),
right click and uninstall it. Reboot the computer. After re-start go to
Control Panel, Check For Updates, (KB929777) should be there...if
not...download it from Microsoft Updates and save it to desktop. Download and
install (KB929777). Re-boot and your life is back to normal and you will
never have another bad day!
