XP SP3 Downloading and Installing Probs....Help Me Please!!

I have tried numerous times to update Service Pack 3 for Windows XP Home
Edition but everytime I start the download and accept the license agreement,
it just stays on "preparing to download." I uninstalled my previous
anti-virus program because I have been having problems with installing
updates from Microsoft and downloaded Windows Live OneCare last night,
thinking it may solve my problem. This morning before I left for work around
4:30am EST, I attempted to try downloading it again because Windows Live
OneCare prompted me to do so and I am still at work but have called home to
ask my sister if it downloaded and IT IS STILL ON THE SAME PAGE!!! What am I
doing wrong?! I have had NO PROBLEM downloading any other updates! In fact,
my automatic updates went ahead and installed the other updates for me but it
won't installl SP3. I will greatly appreciate if somebody would please
assist me in my troubles. I am normally very intelligent when it comes to
computers but this thing has me dumbfounded.

"C program" I'm sorry but I don't see anything written up here for your
response. I am off work now and back to my house and I tried one more time
and left it alone for awhile, still I get nothing!! I have broadband
connection through Road Runner so it's not my connection and something else I
find weird is each time I go to the Microsoft Update page the download time
fluctuates from 25 minutes to 45 minutes, which I am not sure why because it
doesn't even give me an option to select my connection speed. I seen three
other people read my original question and apparently are having the same
problems because they all found my post helpful so I hope somebody can help
not only me but the others also soon!! It's driving me nuts and my computer
isn't old at all I've had this computer since August 2004, I know people that
have older computers and have upgraded to XP and installed SP3 without any
problem.
