My daughter, who is running Vista Home Basic, was offered KB915597, on 24
April 2008.
She has always used AVG free antivirus on her computer and although she has
had this computer for 18 months, this is the first time she has had a
definition update for Defender - I don't remember any either.
She checked to see what version of Defender she has and it is Def Ver
1.31.9351.0
KB915597 issued 24 April shows a Def Ver of 1.31.9309.0.
Is this an older version to the one she already has?
Should this latest offer be installed, despite her not using Defender?

She can update Defender manually via the right-hand menu here:

Hi PA Bear
Thank you for your reply and link you gave. I will send it to her.
I suspect that the update offered to her is of an earlier version to that
which she already has on her computer - the one in your link is a higher
version to her current one - just like MS. Since posting I have read in
another post where the latest update for definitions was a Def Vers
1.31.87260?

Take care - busy month what with Vista SP1 and now XP SP3.

Hi PA Bear
I can only see v1.31.9481.0 on the link to the portal which you gave
previously.
This is the one I have sent to her. I do not see your version number.

Yes, the definitions there are updated at least once a day, more frequently
if needs arise.

When I checked at 22:30 UTC, v1.31.9465.0 was offered. Later, it was
v1.31.9474.0. When you checked still later, v1.31.9481.0 was offered.
Checking right now (15:45 UTC), v1.31.9487.0 (dated 08 May-08) is offered.
