When I try to obtain SP3, the Download & Install window opens but the
progress bar never darkens and apparently nothing happens. I have gone
through all the steps in "How to troubleshoot an unsuccessful installation of
Windows XP Service Pack 3." I use OneCare for an anti-virus.

Manually downlaod XP SP3, and install. Disconnect from internet.
Before installing, make sure that any running process are turned off, like anti virus etc.

I'm having the same problem.

In my case, I have the Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 in Portuguese
(PT), but it seems to be and English version with a language pack. (In my
desktop with XP home edition in Portuguese (PT) the system files are called
c:\Programas, etc...)In the PT version o Media Center thei are called
C:\Program Files, etc.)

As windowsupdate tries to update do SP3, it fails stating, that the language
is incorrect.
With the manual installation the end result is the same (I've tried the PT
and English verions)...

A similiar problem hapenned in the update from IE 6 to IE7.

What can I do about it, and will there be a solution provided by microsoft?
