I have several apple macs (10.4 & 10.5) connecting to files shares on our
2003 R2 server (which is a domain controller). They can connect fine using
AFP (but files get truncated) and if I try to connect them via SMB you get
several different errors relating to permission access or can not mount the
volume but connecting via AFP is fine our via a PC. Now.......yesterday I
setup a test share on the 2003 R2 domain member server, SMB connections
worked perfectly. The share and folder permission were exactly the same as
the original file server? I have tried also creating a new GPO and binded
the macs to the domain and set the GPO to KB555652 which changes the digital
signing of communications.
I would prefer to keep the file shares on the main file server.
Any ideas?

You might check out

It's written for SBS, but should still apply.

Sorry one thing I should add is I've binded the macs to the domain and
created a new OU with the GPO settings as listed in the article you supplied
(although I had read a previous problem were you posted the same link) I then
added the macs to that OU then run gpudate /force and rebooted the macs.
Still the same problem?

Hi,

I am not sure if you have done this but have you gone into the Sharing Tab
on Windows 2003 server with Services for Mac installed and enabled write
access for MacIntosh Clients? It has been about 3 years since I have done
this but there was one checkbox that kept messing up my Mac clients. Once I
checked it they were able to connect fine.

Also make sure the MacIntosh computer names have no spaces in them. I know
my Mac users like to name their computers "Joe's computer" which is not
recognized properly by either DNS or Windows.

Cheers,
Lara
