    - Exchange Server C Drive out of SPACE!! We are currently running Exchange 2003 on a server with mirrored 18GB SCSI hard drives. As you probably guessed, the drives are filling up with the logs as the Database is stored on the D drive. Is there a way to break the mirror on the Boot drive, insert a bigger hard drive and remirror on a bigger drive and not lose any of our data or have to reinstall??     - TS NLB 've inherited a terminal services nlb cluster. I just want to confirm the configuration. cluster.dom.tld == a.b.c.200 ts7 nic1 == a.b.c.98, def gw == a.b.c.1 nic2 == nlb cluster address == a.b.c.200 dedicated ip == a.b.c.101 ts8 nic1 == a.b.c.99, def gw == a.b.c.1 nic2 == nlb cluster address == a.b.c.200 dedicated ip == a.b.c.102 ts9 nic1 == a.b.c.95, def gw == a.b.c.1 nic2 == nlb cluster address == a.b.c.200 dedicated ip == a.b.c.100 Also, in dns all three servers have two dns entries, one pointing to the nic1 address, another pointing to the dedicated ip address.     - Pesky Profile Problem Due to some weird things occuring with a user's account, I decided to delete the profile. Of course, that means deleting it from the profile storage location on the server, deleting the profile on the XP PC in profiles and removing the profile path in the user's account. At this point, no trace of a previous profile should exist. Yet, when the user logs in, desktop icons from the previous profile re-appear and a shortcut (that points to a mapped server drive) still has a .dll error. Repeating this process, I had the user login to a computer never used by him previously. I repeated the deletion steps. He logs in. Same problem. It has to be pulling this down from some location. But I can't think of where that might be coming from AND the status of his profile is local -- not roaming. Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks! Tag: .MSI Tag: 112344

    - IP Security Policies wont all DNS 53 pass through ? Hi, On Windows 2003 64 bit server i run the following test telnet <dns ip> 53 i connect ok to a remote dns server. I created a PACKET FILTER policy. Within this policy i have created the RULE "DNS". Within this rule i have a DNS filter. Filter is setup as follows: source = any ipaddress destination = any ip address protocol = tcp from = any to = 53 saved/applyed I now assigned the policy and try telnet <dns ip> 53 It fails to connect to the remote DNS server. If i unasigned the policy it works again. Why does my policy fail to allow DNS to pass through ?     - 2 windows 2003 DC hang problem Hello. IÂ´ve two windows 2003 std DC. This two DC are DNS servers of the lan. One of the servers has Exchange 2003. At 5 days ago iÂ´ve done an upgrade to 4 GB (maximum supported by windows 2003 std) to the server with Exchange 2003, and since that the server hangs, and do not generate any error in event viewer. The system freeze. All the client computers are Windows XP Professional, and are configured by DHCP and know the 2 DNS. When the server with Exchange 2003 goes down, iÂ´ve problems with users authentication (logon). I think the other server should kepp users authentications and computers working ok in the lan, but when users try to logon, the request fails ! IÂ´ve checked the AD and DNS replication and no problems were found. Why the other server does not respond to the client logon request? The problem of "system freeze" can be related with the quantitiy of 4 Gb of memory (i,ve already changed the DIMMS)? IÂ´ve done hardware diagnostic with HP smartstart CD, but no problems wer found..     - Problems after installing SP2 in Win2k3 on a DC after installing SP2 on a domain controller i have random computers on the domain that are getting a "Logon Failure: Target account name is incorrect". when i look in the event viewer i also see a kerberos error event id 4 and the user cannot access any network resources.     - 2003 Server and domain upgrade from Server 2000 Hello, I am planning to upgrade 2 DC's running 2000 standard to 2003 standard r2. These servers are the PDC and BDC of the domain and the only servers still running windows 2000 left in the domain. I've been running in mixed mode for a couple of years and have upgraded all other servers except for the 2 DC's. I am also running an exchange 2003 server in this environment.     - NTBackup catalogs question \All Users\application data\microsoft\windows\ntbackup\catalogs51 is the repository of catalogs created by running NTBackup. One of my clients has about 1.5 GB of catalogs in this folder dating from 2006, 2007, and 2008, through today, and all but the last five have no corresponding backup data file (.bkf), because the files have been deleted.     - How to have one server in a domain with a different TimeZone then the Greetings, I need one 2003 server in my domain to run on a different timezone for a specialized application that is time sensitive.     - migrating from windows 2000 domain server to 2003 domain server first off, configuration is old windows 2000 domain server with 60 users in active directory new windows 2003 domain server with the same 60 users active directory both domain names are identical but not on the same network obviously workstation are mixed windows 2000 and windows xp professional i have installed windows 2003 server with all the latest SP's and updates from microsoft and it works just fine if i JOIN a new/exsisting computer to the domain. i am having a problem when logging onto the new 2003 domain server with workstations that were in the original 2000 domain. i do not want to re-join these workstations to the new server as it greats a new profile on each workstation and what a pain that would be sometimes it might take 2 or 3 logins then it logs in it seems as if the user login is (for lack of a better term) aware that this is a different server (or vice versa) i did some research and keep hitting on this SID situation can anyone point me in the right direction so i can just use the exsisting workstations and login to my new 2003 server. thanks in advance rich Tag: .MSI Tag: 112296

    - Print Server Hangs We have a Win 2k3 SP2 R2 server, Dual 1400 Mhz, 2 gb RAM. It is hosting right around 200 Lexmark printers. (Its only purpose in life) Out of the blue, it will hang and nobody can print to it anymore. When you go to the console or RD to it it is basically unresponsive. What we have found is in the task manager "lmabcoms.exe" runs at %99 to %100 usage and is the culprit. A hard reboot and it is peachy again for a couple of days. During normal operation, lmabcoms.exe does not take any CPU cycles, just chugs along in task manager. I am wondering if anyone else has similar problems using Lexmark printers hosted from a print server. We are in constant communication with Lexmark about the issue but they have not been able to solve it yet. We have rebuilt the server from scratch on several different hardware platforms and continue to have the same problem. lmabcoms.exe is the process for the Lexmark Enhanced Port and Lexmark Network Port, at least thats what Lemark and our researching point to. We have even had Lemark send us their latest and greatest version of lmabcoms.exe. Any ideas? Tag: .MSI Tag: 112286

    - Redirecting users Hi, I'm not sure if if this is the right forum but here goes. I have a problem in that I have a load of Word documents with attached templates that are on a now defunct server. The problem is that Word now hangs for a long time looking for its template on non-existent server(it has been moved to a new server). Further investigation showed that this location is hardcoded in the Word document. A guy called Terry Farrell on the Word discussion group said that the only solution is to use the Windows Server Redirect command to redirect any requests for templates on the dead server to the new location. Can anyone tell me how to do this? Also, where would any code go? in a login script?     - Permission on Files/Folders I had a typo in the subject...re-posting my question: Using a command line tool such as XCACLS.exe, XCACLS.vbs, SetACL or a similar tool, can we change the permissions so one user/group can only list files but not read them (to see how big the files are)...Effectively, list on all folders and contents but no read access...Is that possible perhaps with a combination of allow/revoke?     - Question I am thinking of creating an own net for the servers so that they listen among if, but in turn, some of these servers, they should see the internal net for the users. I have all the servers with two net cards: NIC1: 10.0.100.x NIC2: 172.16.0.x My doubt.     - When you have to backtrack and downgrade a DC Okay, so I have this book from Microsoft that's basically a guide to get from NT 4.0 to Server 2003. Of particular interest is the section where they talk about going back to an NT DC if there's and installation error or something. Now basically the procedure is: Keep a BDC off line just in case. When something goes wrong, take all 2003 DCs off the network Promote the BDC to a PDC. And I would imagine this works fine if no computer had ever logged on to the new domain. But say you got everything up and running just fine on 2003 and a few days later decided you needed to go back to NT for some reason. This is the scenario I'm trying to simulate. And whenever I do this simulation, I can indeed put the domain back to the NT machine, but any computer that's 2000 or newer that has logged onto the new domain will not log back into the NT version. (specifically because it adopts the DNS naming structure of my new domain name). NT machines, of course, do revert back to the old domain with no problems that I can see. So is there any particular way to get one of these machines that's logged in to the 2003 domain to revert back to the NT domain without having to manually rejoin the domain on each computer? We are currently looking to deploy some Windows XP workstations on a 2003 Domain for development purposes. We are using a mix of mandatory profiles and general domain users that have NO roaming or mandatory profile. We are finding that the XP workstations are storing a local copy of the mandatory profiles and the gerneral domain user accounts as well. Can anyone confirm whether Windows should automatically remove Mandatory profiles when the user logs off, and if so can anyone suggest why a copy of the profiles are being left behind ? Similarly can anyone recommend how we can allow users with a basic domain user account (no roaming or mandatory profile) to logon to our XP workstations such that their locally created profile is automatically deleted when they logoff ? i.e. no matter the user type (even domain admin if possible) we would like to remove any locally stored user profiles.     - XP Clients slow on W2k3 Domain after long idle time. Each morning when users come in. If the user did not log off, the computer is very slow until the user logs off and logs back in.     - How much bandwidth is being used by what I know I can use various tools to view running process's what TCP\UDP ports they are using and even see sessions they have open over the network. Is there any way I can see how much bandwidth is being used or traffic being generated by these process's.     - Configuring Local Exchange POP3 / Dns Problems I am using Windows 2003 Enterprise which is overkill but we are running a specialized application that will not run on Windows Server small business. I have installed Exchange 2003 and plan to use iGetmail. My problem lies that I have evidently configured something wrong with DNS. My server name is topdog and my domain name is the same to which I will be receiving email. Now when I go to my server and attempt to use it, it doesnt recognize it as an internet address and comes back with a reply from its local address 192.168.1.101. Therefore when I configure the iGetmail program it doesn't recognize my mail server.     - Rights to run Server Manager from client? When we ran a Windows 2000 domain, I could appoint a certain number of selected staff members as "Server Operators". This enabled them to use Server Manager to disconnect sessions for students who had not logged off properly. Since we moved to Windows 2003-R2 (SP2) such a staff member can open Server Manager and when he/she clicks on a Domain Controller, he/she can control sessions. However when clicking on a Member Server, the message "Access is denied" is displayed As administrator equivalent I can get into both DC and Member server. It just affects "Server Operators".     - Access Denied to COM Security using Admin Account Hello, I was hardening the security of my windows server and i read the document about MSDTC that if you don't need it then disable. And this is exactly what I did. I stopped and disabled MSDTC service. And then i removed Anonymous Logon & Everyone permisson (Local Access & Remote Access) under component service for COM security. I restarted the server, logged in as Administrator and got access denied to most of the tasks such as creating users or adding users to group. The worst thing is that i can't even Right-Click on any object to check the properties. I tried to bring back the permission on the COM security but failed as Iâ??m getting access denied though Iâ??m logged in as administrator. Tried to restart MSDTC service but unsuccessful because i can't even right-Click on it. The event log is showing the following error.     - How does Licensing Work I am curious about how the licensing works. I have a server that is running Windows Server 2003 and MSSql Server 2000. We have five user machines running XP. We're having problems getting VSS to take snapshots for Shadow Copies and backups. It is now specific to the Exchange VSS Writer. We had BackupExec 12 installed and couldn't do an Exchange backup without having catasrophic errors. I have since switched to ArcServe 11.5 SP3 and the last Exchange backup went successfully. A year ago or so we built this monster server for files with a RAID-5 array it has just about 3TB of disk in it total. I just noticed today in Disk Management that we actually only partitioned 2048GB of it (I guess the limit for a single filesystem?) and that there is almost a 900GB 'unallocated space' block sitting there unused. I am trying to create (which I have done) a GPO to push .Net 2.0 Framework to
24 computers. I have converted the .exe to .msi with freeware (Advcance
Installer 6.2), created the GPO and pused it out.

Computers see it, shows window after applying security settings and before
you login, but my problem is that .Net 2.0 Framework requires user
interaction to finish and runs in to the ULLA acceptance. Therefore it may
get pushed but not installed

How can this be accpomplished, to automate an installation that requires you
to choose options?

Hello teddkilroy,

Check the vendors website from Advanced installer to find a solution without
requiring a user interaction. It is not part from MS support. Normally during
a package creation you can automate all userinteractions, so that the user
have nothing to accept.

The easiest way for this official patches and updates are the WSUS 3 SP1
server. Or you can use the command line install for msi packages:
