I have a older toshiba 700mhz laptop with ME.

I tried to run windows update on it. The first
time, i selected all updates. It got almost to the end of install,
then hung. (it had not been updated in a long time)

The second time, i left out the IE update. It did
12G or so download, then proceeded to install the files.
It got to the end of the install
dashboard and said it was 100%, but it would not
close. (i had to turn the power off to kill it)

Now, i start the machine and it boots. I can go
to windows update in IE, but its says windows update
is only for windows machines. So update thinks ME
is not a windows machine any more. It did go to update
and show the updates before the update screen hung.

How can i fix this?
How can i get ME to recognize the windows update site
and check for updates again?

Can't help out on your current dilemma but one you're squared away it's best
that you don't try all the updates at once. Do 2-3 at a time depending on
the size of the update. If there is a subsequent problem at least you'll be
able to pin point when it happened. Also suggest that you make a System
Restore point before downloading/installing each set of updates.
