Hi,
I have just used system restore and now when ME starts it gets a far as the
desktop opening then I get message after message saying that my startup
files can't open and have caused an error in 'kernel' something (sorry to be
so vague).
I have to keep clicking cancel to all the messages and eventually I can
used Ctrl-Alt-Del to see that all the files that are normally opened at
startup have disappeared from the tasks running.
What could have caused it and what should I do.
Thanks

Well - at least until he can install something that works properly with ME!

I'm not sure the poster should bother. <g> With a bit of care and by
practising safe hex he should have no need of an AV application in the
short time it should take him to acquire and install a decent AV product
that not only works but also works when installed on Win Me.

I recommend obtaining an AV tool that is compatible with WinME, i.e., a
highly rated tool from those described below, other than Norton AV. SR
typically kills the OS when used with NAV, which writes to the registry. If
your checkpoint is prior to the last NAV signature update, or core engine
update, you are screwed.

Get a highly rated, compatible AV tool.
