my son just returned from college with his computer which
was running windows me. It won't boot with or without the
startup disk. I tried to reinstall (it was an upgrade
version}. Startup says it can't find windows 98 files on
the computer (and of course he lost the old windows 98
disk). Any suggestions?

Can you boot the PC using a floppy? If so, can you see the hard disk? You
can test this by entering
DIR C:\
at the A:\> DOS prompt.

What error message do you see when you attempt to boot the system? "Won't
boot" can cover many scenarios hence my earlier question.

there is no error message. If safe mode is chosen the
next message is its now safe to turn off your computer
and it powers off. Thanks.
