windows not running

I am using windows me and it has stopped running for some
reason. I only have access to the internet thru my instant
access button on keyboard. I have no start button or
toolbar at bottom of screen. The only thing that is on my
screen is my screensaver. I can't even get to properties
by right clicking on screensaver. This started about 2
days ago. I thought it was my monitor because the colors
on monitor went haywire. But now monitor is fine but still
no windows. Can someone please help me. I would re-install
windows me but the disk has been lost. I would appreciate
any help at all. Merry

What happens during the boot process? I don't expect your system boots
immediately to your screensaver. Can you boot into Safe Mode? Does the mouse
work in Safe Mode? Can you do a complete virus scan? You say you can access
the Internet. There are a few places online to scan for viruses. Click the
top left link at www.mservers.net for Housecall. Check to see that your
mouse is actually working. You say the only thing you see is the
screensaver, but does moving or clicking the mouse do anything? Make sure
everything is connected properly in the back of your computer. Try a
different mouse if you can.
