when shutting down.....it doesn't!

Tutorials Win: Microsoft Windows Forum

For several weeks now, my system refuses to shut down
properly. It goes through the usual routine of closing
all programmes, shutting down the hardware (tower), and
finally blanking the screen. And just as I'm turning off
the monitor power, the tower re-starts of its own accord.
Any suggestions?

Dear Jim,

Thanks very much for the links. I followed
http://aumha.org/win4/a/shutdown.htm and determined that
the problem was not associated with the sound files, nor
the 1st 11 items of the 15 item sub-link. On item 12, I
followed the instructions re: Device Drivers and Test
Configuration, checking all devices (accepting system
devices) that had a test configuration check box. On the
last but one device, under Ports heading, after checking
this box my system froze. The mousev or keyboard would
not respond (although I had the forsight to NOT check
these devices), and now can only shut down and restart
manually, and am unable to prodeed past the window asking
me to choose which configuration option wish to use.
Again, the window apears and the screen, mouse and
keyboard do not respond.

Please help! :)
