Windows Me came with my computer. I would like to upgrade
to 2000 or XP but not sure which is more compatable or if
I will loose anything during the transition or if I can
even upgrade at all.

You need to check your system's specs against the system requirements for
W2K/XP:
W2K:

XP: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/howtobuy/upgrading/sysreqs.asp

You can't upgrade WindowsMe to Windows 2000 since Windows 2000 came out
first. So that probably settles that. :-)

XP is your only option in the case of an upgrade. If you can backup relevent
data, a clean install is always the better solution. That might bring W2K
into the frey. Since your system is probably not quite up to par to meet the
XP recommeneded requirements, i'ld choose W2K Pro. Otherwise stick with what
you have.

Doing an upgrade or clean install without a compatibility check is not
recommended. Run "winnt32 /checkupgradeonly" from a W2K to get the details.
Check for a flash bios update for the motherboard. Gather drivers for
devices not on the HCL list.

The compatibility check must also include software compatibility. W2K and XP
are nt-based, user-level operating systems. Don't even think of buying the
Home versions unless you are aware of the implications.
