NTFS Question
Can a system running ME be converted to NTFS? (I want to get over the
2gig file size limitation, but don't want to go back to XP.) Tag: upgrade Tag: 215161
May Be OT Problem, But I'm Going To Try Anyway.
(I'm only posting this after a number of unsatisfactory emails from
NTI support; those kind of emails that treat users like idiots and
don't address the questions asked.)
I'm running Windows ME with NTI CD Maker Software. Since I began
using this burning software, it has been bullet proof. Over the past
year, they've had several updates, all of which have worked without
problems. And now, their latest update gives me this message after
install and won't run.
'The CDMkr32.exe is linked to missing export
SKINDIALOG.DLL:SetSkinIniFile.'
First, the file mentioned above is not 'missing'; it is in the folder
where it should be. NTI sent me another copy of the file, but this
didn't change anything. This file is also present (same version) in
all previous versions of NTI CD Maker.
I've even tried installing the software in C:, rather than the Program
Files Folder, but the second update doesn't give an option as to where
you want it installed and goes ahead and uninstalls the program in C:
and puts it in Program Files, so, that didn't work. I've gone through
several install cycles, including disabling all running programs.
My suspicion is that it is an NTI problem, (given how reluctant
software producers are to admit they have a problem) but if anyone
has an idea that the problem could reside in Windows, or my system,
I'm wide open for suggestions. Thanks for taking the time to read
this rather long post, but I would really appreciate any suggestions,
no matter how wild they may be. (I can run the program without the
update, but the problem is NTI has not been forthcoming as to the

Hibernation
My computer doesn't seem to want to go into hibernation.
The screen goes black but the computer itself never
completely goes off. I think it might have something to
do with my mouse. It's a "IntelliMouse" from Microsoft.
The red light stays on, as does the computer. When you
move the mouse and the screen reapears from black, the
cursor is very slow and whatever programs you click load
slow as well. I can't shut down or restart my computer
anymore either. The screen makes the noise it has always
done when clicking restart/shut down, but then the cursor
and computer freeze when it gets to the light blue screen,
and you have to just turn off the monitor. Is it indeed
my mouse that is causing the trouble or something else?

Startup Problem Please Help
When I boot up my computer, it doesn't get past the title
screen for Windows ME. It does not even get to the
desktop. I have tried switching it to safe mode and the
same thing happens. It says
"Windows could not upgrade the file %1 from %2

What can I do? Is there a way I can get to a dos prompt

windows me errors
Hi, my wife and I recently upgraded from our emachines
600is to a much newer model. When I went to get some
files off our old computer, it won't boot up anymore when
it worked ok before it sat idle for a week.
When I try to turn it on, it starts booting, but then I
get a message that reads 'cmdninst has caused an error in
sysdm.cpl'. After I hit close, I get an error that
reads 'msgsrv32 has caused an error in setupx.dll'.
After that, it just stops booting and stays in the
wallpaper screen.

Regedit/SysEdit/MSconfig
Here's what's happening. I am trying to troubleshoot my
pc, but I can't troubleshoot when I can't access any
programs.
The Issue:
Whenever I go to to the "run" command under the start menu
and type in any of the following, "regedit", "sysedit"
or "msconfig" the computer acts like it is about to open
them up and then simply doesn't open it, or opens one of
them up but closes it immediately. I can't gain access to
any of these tools. Any suggestions on how to fix this

Left pane of Windows Explorer is blank and gray
When I launch Windows Explorer, the left pane is blank
and the background is gray. The right pane appears okay
and I can get to everything from there.

MyDocs.dll
Anybody have an idea why all my net apps are trying to use the above file
for accessing the internet? Info goes off to a site seemingly owned in
Canada (Alberta) although the address info is hokey when I looked it up: it
listed a suite in the CN tower, which is in Toronto last time I looked, and
houses no businesses I'm aware of. This happens with Xnews, Outlook, Opera,
Mozilla. Did full scans with AVG, Spybot, AdAware, And online scanners at
Symantec and Panda, and a DOS disk. Nothing, all clean. Outgoing ports are
1294, 1296, 1298 TCP. This doesn't happen on the 2k or BSD boxes here.
I googled it to death but no usable info.

Error Message Re: dimm.dll
While surfing the net, all of a sudden I get this error message "Explore has
caused an error in flash.ocx Explore will now close". I closed the error
message popup and then I get the following popup error message "Explore has
caused an error in dimm.dll". Does anyone know how/or what to do to fix
this occurring problem? I used macromedia flash v.7 thanks.

Restore has filled my hard drive
I have a 7.85 GB hard drive and 3.82GB of hard drive space is taken up with
.cab files in the Archive subfolder of the Restore folder.
I am quickly running out of hard drive space and would like to delete these
files if possible but when I try I get an error message which reads:
"Access is denied. The source file may be in use".
Could someone please advise if it is OK to get rid of these files and how I
would go about it.

Thumbnails wont display

Help needed to display the thumbnails, I have tried "REGSVR32 =

slow context menu - registry entries?
I've been having a problem with slow system response to right mouse clicks:
sometimes takes two or three tries for the system to provide the
context menu
sometimes it might take 10 seconds or so to respond
sometimes it responds immediately
So far I've tried using a different mouse (with its different drivers),
running the Dell diagnostics on all the hardware, using TWEAKUI to rebuild
the system files, preventing my anti-virus program from loading (Norton),
dinking with all the mouse options, decreasing the graphics board's
hardware acceleration (via device manager), etc, etc.
I googled and noticed that many people have had this problem, but nothing I
read indicated a reliable fix ...So I thought I'd post another more cry for
help - has anyone discovered a fix for this problem?

When I use my msn messenger I get an error saying that
internet explorer proxy settings are missing or incorrect

Error 1006 - modem conflict
Please help - When I try to connect to Internet, I get
this message: (Yellow triangle) "Modem resources conflict
with another hardware. Please change your
configuration. Error 1006." (This is not my own
computer.) How do I go about fixing this?? I checked the
IRQ's and on IRQ9 there is: US Robotics 56K voice,
Yamaha DS-XG PCI Audio CODEC, Intel 82371AB/EB PCI to USB
universal host controller, and the IRQ holder for PCI
steering. Should I be getting one of these off the #9
IRQ?? And if so, how? How to correct this?? This
computer belongs to a fire dept that needs to get on

USB driver help
I am trying to install an Iomega Zip drive on a Windows Me
machine and am missing the driver
files "USBMPHLP.PDR", "USBNTMAP.SYS", and "USBSTOR.SYS".
The user has misplaced their Windows CD...anybody know if
there is a way to download these driver files? Windows
update doesn't work, perhaps because these aren't "core"
drivers it doesn't list them among potential driver

Error Message re: Kernel 32
September 30 I downloaded a Microsoft Update. First, it
took me a long time to be able to get back to my email
(Netscape). Then, I keep getting an error message: Memory
access violation in Module Kernel 32 @ (a different number
each time) every time I boot up. I have tried msconfig,
scandisc, defrag, Goback, system restore and nothing will
get rid of that message.
Please help. I believe Microsoft is to blame for this
problem and I am not a happy camper. Microsoft updates are

"My Computer" opens "connect to"
Hi,
I posted this on three other newsgroups but nobody
responded, so I try here.
My daughter (a college student) has a Windows ME machine
which when she clicks on the "My Computer" icon on the
desktop the "My Computer" windows opens but also
the "connect to" windows comes up and tries to connect to
the internet. Does anyone have any idea why, and
how to fix this problem? I saw a posting from about a
month ago where someone else has a simular problem and
nobody responded to his posting.

Anyone know if YAHOO sells not only your YAHOO email address but also

Memory Access Villation in Module Kernal32
Dear all:
I recently dled the latest Windows ME security pack and
the install froze about 75% of the way, so after giving
the computer about 15 minutes, I decided to reset the
system. However, now I get the following error message
after Windows loads right at my desktop:
Memory Access Violation in module kernal32 at 8417:28449238
After I click "ok", I get a blank desktop (no icons). The
task manager only shows my AVG virus software and the
Explorer applications as running, but it seems like
they're not related to the cause of the problem.
I've tried restarting the computer in safe mode and line-
by-line confirmation boot mode, but I get the same error
message everytime.

Cannot switch keyboard language!!!!
In ME, I go in the Control Panel/Keyboard/Language
and ADD another language and it appears in the
language list all right, I can even set it as
the default, click APPLY (get a
dissaproving DING), click OK (get another dissaproving
DING) the dialog box dissapears and nothing has changed.
I go back to the Keyboard and everything I just done
is gone!

Cannot Delete <file> Access Denied
I recently picked up the W32.HLLP.Handy virus. I was able
to clear it from its exe file, however I still have 2
files that contain the virus. These 2 file types are
*.cpy and are in the C:\_Restore\Temp folder. When I
attempt to delete them, I get an error message telling me
the file is in use cannot delete, access denied. Can
anyone walk me through getting these 2 files deleted?

Windows Media Player 9 keeps crashing
I made a big mistake when I upgraded to Media Player 9. I
had 7.1 and never had a problem with it. I would love to
have it back but I don't feel comfortable playing around
in the Registry.

Windows Protection Error. System Halted
Hello,
I did a restore on Windows ME OS to a previous date but
after that it just starts in the safe-mode. In normal
mode, it gives the error "Windows Protection Error. System
Halted". I checked the website on this issue, it mentions
about Norton AntiVirus protection, but i had uninstalled
norton antivirus, although i did have McAffee Professional
edition installed. Is there a way this thing can be
resolved quickly?

How to add a language for keyboard
Hi,
I don't have the ME CD and need to add Brazilian
Portuguese to the keyboard settings. My computer came pre-
installed with ME. Is there a way that I can download
this driver? It's name is kbdusx.kbd and it's supposedly
in the win_19.cab file.

"resources dangerously low"
On my dell pc, microsoft word 2000 will not load. When I
click on the icon the MS Word logo pops up, and remains
there without opening the program. Sometimes a pop-up
screen warns that "resources are dangerously low" and asks
if I would like to shut down MS Word, which is actually
not open yet.
Can you help me please? Do I need another copy of MS Word
2000?

Windows Clock is Very Fast
This was the same problem and a fix in WinXP:

Would anyone know of a similar fix for previous versions

I have a hard drive that took a tumble. It was a used
drive that I bought on-line and it had win me installed
and worked fine until the floor rose up and struck it.
Now I get an error message that says I have a divide

comp slow and freezes alot
My comp has been getting slower and slower the last few
weeks and locks up alot! I bought system mechanic 4 and
ran it all, i think it is worse now! I have downloaded all
the me updates, still no help. also system restore won't
allow me to create a day and the last time it created one
on its own was last feb. and it won't let me back up to
that. I also am getting a message at startup that says
windows file IEDLL.EXE is messed up and is closing and i
need to reload it. How and will I lose anything? Another
problem I have is it won't always start when i turn it on.
It will begin to boot, but then stop before the green
light comes on at the floppy port. I have to turn it off
manually and unplug power cable and then plugit back up,
then it will come on. I bought a new one but it didn't
help. Sorry so long, but this thing is driving me crazy!

Swap File
Hi:
My swap file takes up a lot of space, like everyone else's, I suppose. In
order to alliviate this problem, I was thinking of either moving the folder
to another drive with more available space, or
deleting it alltogether. Neither step seems to be possible, because
in either case I am getting the message that access is denied since it is
busy with another application.
