Thunk is (normally) associated with Twain devices such as scanners. Perhaps
you may need to re-install your scanner.
A fresh copy of wininit.exe can be found and extracted (using msconfig) from
the WIN_17.CAB in one of the Windows\Options\ sub-folders.
If you are still struggling with System Restore, re-post the exact details
of the problem (Can you set a manual SR point? What error reports do you
get etc., etc?) with System Restore in the subject title and I'm sure that
someone will come back to you with advice.
