    - Trouble installing/running Metrowerks CodeWarrior Prior to going online with my Comcast broadband connection, I've had problems with my various versions of MW CW. I had somewhat of a similar problem about 1 1/2 years ago which I rectified by reinstalling Me. When I substituted the old registry, I would experience the same problems. Therefore, I ruled the registry as suspect and didn't use it any further. I can install CW but cannot get its IDE.exe file to open without exiting abruptly, then causing 145 dump files to be created. A dialog states that the prefs file is probably read-only or otherwise in use. Actually, since the application has never opened properly, a pref file never has a chance to become created. CW uses the autoexec.bat file for entering some environment input. The Metrowerks contact person is at a loss at to what my problem might be. He suspects that my AV may have some effect at write-protecting one or more System folders. However, I haven't found any read-only system folders. In any event, I have deactivated my AV, firewall, and anti-spyware applications, to no avail. What might be the problem here? I've had some of the problems before I installed the internet connection, e.g., the generation of only one dump file upon the closing of the CW IDE, but nothing like the 145 dumps I'm now getting at each attempt to run the executable. If you continue to experience problems, try restarting your computer. which I have done over and over again and as soon as the desk comes back up, the same error message occurs. I tried to delete the tmp file, but it won't let me, saying that windows is using the file.     - display driver problem My Windows Me system has developed a system strange to me. During the bootup all is normal till the loading of Windows. The most frequent symptom is a display on the monitor warning that there is a mismatch in the frequency of the graphics card and that of the monitor. It reports the horizontal frequency as too high. Nothing can be done from that point but a restart. The "solution" has been to boot into safe mode, which does work, and then to reinstall the NVidia display driver. This is a tiresome process that must be repeated at each startup. I can not tell whether this is a hardware problem, perhaps the card or the hard drive storing the file with an error, or software.     - click and freeze I've been having a problem when opening folders,items in the task bar, or just opening applications (doesn't matter which app.) from the desktop. Whenever I click to open something up, the screen would freeze and become not responsive for about 30 seconds, then it would either open or close the application after the 30 second period. While frozen the mouse cursor is able to move but the screen does not respond to the clicks for that 30 second delay or fozen period. I checked for spyware, highjackers and viruses with a clean bill of health. I also deleted all cookies and everything in the TIF folder.     - msdos popups on startup when I start up windows ME, several msdos windows pop up, having tried to run several .exe files. Rundll32 comes up 3 times, the others are tosmem and ati2cwxx.     - File folder opening problem When I double click on any folder, the "open with" menu comes up. When I check the open sequence by right clicking on any folder, it shows 2 "open" options plus explore. The first open links to 'open with' and the second open does the normal thing and opens the file folder. The file associations show an open and explore option for file folders, not 2 open options. Default restore does not help probably because the normal associations are there plus the one extra 'open' that sits on top of the right click menu. How can I edit out the offending 'open'?     - Norton AntiVirus 2004 Problem I recently had McAfee AntiVirus but the signatures expired. I switched to Norton AntiVirus 2004 but have been having multiple of problems. First, setup completed successfully but I could not run a Manual Virus Scan. AutoProtect, however, would load. Then, I uninstalled and reinstalled. If you are talking about IE 6 upgrade mine never finishes
either. Always says a previous installation did not
complete.

Perhaps because you have reinstalled Win Me over itself without first removing
IE6? This would then have installed IE5.5 whilst still leaving remnants
relating to your previous IE6 install in the registry.

If this is the case you might want to have a look at MS KB 312451 - "How to
Remove Internet Explorer 6 by Reinstalling Windows"
(http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=312451) and also KB 293907 - "How to
Uninstall Internet Explorer 6" (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=293907).
