In general, it's dependent on the sound card drivers.
My ESS and C Lab sound cards have a "DOS
mode driver" I don't normally load them.
In my case, use of the dos mode sound card emulator
drivers cause more problems than they are worth.
(ESS sound system) The dos drivers cause conflicts
that have something to do with emulating an ISA
sound card with a built in laptop sound system.
The driver did work with win 95 in an earlier version.
The laptop was delivered with win ME.
