I go to control panel and then when I go to click the show sound etc
it will not let me as it is grayed out, I have no sound not even the
icon, so please any help

How long have you been without sound, is this a new problem and if so what
has altered on your machine since you had sound.
Give us a few more details and I'm sure someone will be able to help.

Joan's request for further information would certainly help, but in the
meantime either:-

Assuming this has only (very) recently happened, run System Restore and
select the last date before the icon 'went'.

or

Go into Control Panel | Sounds and Multimedia\Sounds and make sure the Show
volume control on the taskbar box is checked.

or

Go into Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs select the Windows Setup tab and
under System tools, tick the Volume Control box.

or

'Remove' your sound card using Device Manager in Safe Mode. Re-boot and let
WinMe re-install your sound card drivers.

More details would certainly help!
