Joan's request for further information would certainly help, but in the
meantime either:-
Assuming this has only (very) recently happened, run System Restore and
select the last date before the icon 'went'.
or
Go into Control Panel | Sounds and Multimedia\Sounds and make sure the Show
volume control on the taskbar box is checked.
or
Go into Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs select the Windows Setup tab and
under System tools, tick the Volume Control box.
or
'Remove' your sound card using Device Manager in Safe Mode. Re-boot and let
WinMe re-install your sound card drivers.
More details would certainly help!
