Spontaneous shutdowns on 9x machines are often hardware related. You have to
consider the possibility that RAM or a major board is failing.
A "softer" version of the same thing is if you're having overheating
problems -- in that case, the problem would never appear within about 20
minutes of first turning on the machine, would pretty much always appear no
more than 40-60 minutes after turning it on, would likely recur if the
machine were immediately turned on, but would not come back right away if
you let it sit a while.
But let's rule out some other things first. Go to my Computer Health page
