I have a Sony Vaio laptop with Windows ME.
1) When I start up, the Microsoft Office Shortcut Bar will
open, but not respond ( CTRL ALT DEL to get to task
manager and see that it is not responding)
2)I have about 20-25 different items listed in the task
manager as running...however I have not opened any
applications, I just turned the machine on. I have to
close half of them to "unlock" the computer.
3)My programs options from the start button are missing
things like Accesories-defrag, etc...Where they went who
knows!
In order to perform scan disk, I had to go into safe mode
and let it scan disk last night. I plan to scan disk on
my d drive as well tonight and defrag both as well...in
safe mode.
What else should I do? Should I do a restore? Not sure
what exactly this does, but I do not want to lose my
existing software programs I have loaded or files...
Any help would be appreciated...

Download CWShredder, free, from
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html
Update it and run it.

Then get Adaware6, also free, from www.lavasoft.de . Once again, update it
and run it.

All this is with the assumption that you have a running antivirus with
up-to-date definitions.....if not........GET ONE! Also, you may want to
get and run McAfee's Stinger, also free.

Oh yeah, when everything is cleaned up, check one or more of the following
sites on how to trim your startup axis......you would be amazed at how much
this will help your PC.

Heirloom, old and do it all sometimes maybe if I
can

Okay...I will get to work!
My subscription to Norton Internet Security just
expired...I will renew it.
Thank you, Heirloom.

General concensus here is that Norton sucks big-time vis-a-vis WinME.
If you're happy with it, though, go ahead.
