I recently acquired a computer with winME on it which has
ALOT of folders and files scattered about b/c the previous
owner deleted instead of uninstalling programs.
It seems that the order of system folders are wrong and
sometimes doubled up... for instance there is a:
C:\windows\cookies
C:\windows\temp.internet files and
C:\windows\history ... which is what I am used to seeing
with win98. But, then there are also all of those same
folders inside C:\windows\Temp.
I(almost) got brave and tried to get rid of the doubles
but chickened out when a message popped up basically
telling me that I better not move the folder.

I tried to find some web-info re: the correct order of
folders but had no luck. Hopefully, someone here can
help... A) are those folders supposed to be 2x's? B) can I
dump the copies without confusing the whole OS? and C) so
I don't have to bother you again, do you know of a web-
site where I can find that info?

Thanks!

RJ,

First look to see if there is a WINDOWS\Options\Cabs folder. If you
don't have a copy of Win ME then just mebbe the OS is backed up to
there. http://winnoel.users.btopenworld.com/reinME.htm
Personally, I'd reformat the Hard Drive and get rid of the fiasco you've
inherited.

I think mebbe you're right. yes, I have that folder and as
soon as I can muster up the energy to go another round
with this box that should be a boat anchor, I'll give it a
whirl. Thanks for the link. It makes it sound simple
enough that even a computer illiterate like me should be
able to handle the task. Thanks
